Referee makes Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins call a timeout even though he never did, a breakdown
What Happened
In a close game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets, the final seconds of play are filled with dramatic moments and confusion. With Memphis trailing by one point and 30 seconds remaining, the Rockets have possession of the ball and call a timeout to set up a crucial play. As the Rockets prepare to inbound the ball, the Memphis Grizzlies' head coach, Taylor Jenkins, is seen gesturing and yelling "Go!" on the sideline. However, the referees mistakenly believe that Jenkins has called a timeout, and they blow the whistle, stopping the play. The Grizzlies' assistant coaches and the crowd are stunned by the referee's decision, with one assistant coach in the front row throwing his arms up in disbelief. Jenkins immediately protests, exclaiming, "I said go! What are you talking about?" The other assistant coach also expresses his confusion, asking, "Why are you even listening to me?" The referees explain that they thought they heard Jenkins call for a timeout, but the coach vehemently denies this, saying, "I said go!" The assistant coaches continue to react with shock and bewilderment, with one of them frantically gesturing and the other holding up his hands in disbelief. Despite the confusion, the Grizzlies regain possession of the ball and have a chance to take the lead. Their assistant coach, armed with a clipboard and marker, quickly draws up a play as the team prepares to inbound the ball. The players execute the play, and Ja Morant (JJJ) steps up to the free-throw line, knocking down both shots to give the Grizzlies a one-point lead with just 8.6 seconds remaining. The Rockets call a timeout to set up their final possession, but their shot attempt falls short, and the Grizzlies hold on to win the game. the intense emotions and reactions of the coaches, players, and fans during this dramatic sequence, leaving the viewer with a sense of the high stakes and the impact of the referee's unexpected call.
