What Happened

In a thrilling bottom of the ninth inning, the San Diego Padres mount an incredible comeback against the San Francisco Giants. The Padres trail 4-1 entering the final frame, but their new closer Josh Hader struggles to find the strike zone, walking the leadoff batter and then allowing a pair of singles to load the bases with no outs. Hader continues to battle his control issues, walking in a run to make it 4-2 before Evan Longoria hits a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4. With the score knotted, the Giants bring in their own closer Camilo Doval, who promptly gets a strikeout to end the inning and send the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, star slugger Juan Soto comes to the plate for the Padres. After a bizarre sequence where Soto argues he was hit by a pitch that was ruled a foul ball, the call is overturned and he is awarded first base via catcher's interference. This sets the stage for Manny Machado, who has been brimming with confidence, recently telling reporters "I'm fucking Manny Machado" when asked about the Padres' matchup with the Dodgers. Machado steps to the plate and crushes a 1-0 fastball over the wall for a walk-off three-run home run, giving the Padres a wild 7-4 victory. As Machado rounds the bases, his teammates eagerly await him at home plate, with one fan desperately trying to get a high-five. After the game, Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove playfully douses Machado with a water bottle, capping off the thrilling comeback win. Hader, who blew the save, is seen celebrating with the team, acknowledging that his teammates had his back after his struggles. The electric finish leaves the Padres and their fans overjoyed, as they pick up a crucial win in their quest to chase down the Dodgers in the NL West division race.
