Gabriel Landeskog accidentally nets the overtime goal for the other team, a breakdown
What Happened
The Colorado Avalanche are in a tight overtime battle against the Pittsburgh Penguins, with the game deadlocked at 2-2. The Avalanche have a crucial power play opportunity in the final minute of the extra period, desperately seeking to end the game and claim the victory. Colorado's captain, Gabriel Landeskog, leads the power play charge, trying to create an opening for his team to capitalize. The Penguins' defense is collapsing around the Avalanche attackers, making it difficult for them to find a clear shooting lane. Landeskog and his teammates regroup and reset, running the play down the right side, but the Penguins' defense remains suffocating. With the power play winding down, the Avalanche make one final push. Landeskog positions himself in front of the net, hoping to redirect or pounce on a rebound. Pittsburgh's Brandon Tanev races in, trying to clear the puck away from danger. Tanev fires a shot towards the empty net, but it hits Landeskog's stick and deflects into the Colorado goal, scoring the game-winning goal for the Penguins. Landeskog is devastated, realizing his inadvertent mistake has cost his team the game. He angrily breaks his stick in frustration, expressing his disappointment. From the replay, it's clear that if Landeskog had not been there, Tanev's shot would have simply missed the net and the Avalanche would have had a chance to regroup and potentially score the winning goal themselves. The Avalanche bench and fans are stunned, struggling to comprehend the turn of events. Reactions in the crowd range from disbelief to anguish, as the home team has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. The Penguins, on the other hand, celebrate their unexpected and somewhat fortunate, overtime triumph. Despite the heartbreaking nature of the play, Landeskog's competitive spirit shines through as he drops to one knee and pumps his fist, acknowledging the absurdity of the situation. The Avalanche captain knows that this is a game of inches and on this night, the hockey gods have not been kind to his team.

Click timestamps to jump to that momentWe've got a sad situation for Colorado Rockies fans. This one's brought to you by
Seat Geek. They are in overtime and they have a power play.
Things are looking good for them to win this game, hopefully in the next one
minute and 13 seconds. Only problem is they can't find any open space. Penguins are
just collapsing on them everywhere. They got a regroup here, turn it around, start over.
Now there's only a minute of the power play left. Okay, let's bring it up
the right side. Nope, Penguins just going to collapse on that dude, grab the puck,
get it up. Here it is. Okay, now watch number 92 here. Forget how to
pronounce his name because I don't know his name, but he's the main guy in
this video. You got Tanev coming up and he's going five hole and
oh my god. Okay, so he scored on himself. You can
see here he's looking to open them up. He's got the five hole. He's trying
to slide it right in there. Closes it up. Good job. Slides over. Hits what?
Lanniskog's stick and he battles it and he loses the battle. Stick versus puck. Ultimate
lose job. If he, from this angle, it looks like if he didn't exist, the
puck would have just went right past him and nothing would have happened. Kind of
catches him on the toe of his stick and then handcuffs him and then he
just kind of whiffs right there and that's the game and it's really sad and
he's upset about it and he's going to break his stick and it's not a
big scream like fuck. It's more like a dang. It's like a gentle stick breaking,
but from this angle, if he didn't exist, then 37 would have just put the
puck in easily right there. Still, he could have just batted it away. So it's
his fault. Little first person up competition and this girl wins. This guy, he's coming
for her, but I'm giving her the victory there and it's all good. And now
let's play some faces in the crowd. We got excited. We got sad. We got
super excited, super excited. We got scary movie scream mask and old man excited. And
then I don't know if you're allowed to do this. I don't know if you're
allowed to drop to the knee and do the fist pump when the other team
put your blocked shot into the net for you. I mean, we'll allow it because
fun is fun, but I think it's kind of like, come on, dude. Like you
should have like looked at your teammates embarrassingly and said like, wow, I can't believe
that. All these guys are like, did that really happen? Goa says, yeah, don't even
watch. It's pretty fucked up. This one was brought to you by SeatGeek. Go to
