Aaron Judge couldn't believe he was safe, a breakdown
What Happened
Angels and the Yankees had a wild finish. We've got a lot of shenanigans.
Why This Matters
Judge gets called safe on a close play and absolutely loses his mind in disbelief, which kicks off one of those chaotic Angels-Yankees moments where everything goes sideways. The shenanigans that follow are exactly why you watch baseball in the ninth inning.
150K people have watched Judge have an existential crisis at first base, landing this breakdown at #1097 on the all-time list.

finish. We got dropped balls. We've got
great plays. We've got good base
running. We've got a lot of shenanigans.
This breakdown is brought to you by me.
My name is John Boy. And they got a
defensive replacement, Bryce Tidiosio,
who I am going to call Tedioso the
remainder of the video. Stan's at the
plate. Romano's pitching going slider
away, no bite. Slider away, no bite.
Slider away, no bite. Now, Stanton
usually bites at that pitch. He's not
biting it at all. And I think that's
ringing some bells in Romano's head cuz
he's struggled closing games against the
Yankees in his career. So, maybe they
know what's coming. Maybe they got some
intel. Now, the three 0 pitch. Let's see
what he does here. He goes with a fast
ball inside. Gets the call. Don't think
it's strike. Bird across the screen. Is
he going to do that same thing again?
Yeah, that's a beautiful pitch. Now,
we've got a full count. Romano gets the
call probably. Let's do the fast ball
again. Stan says that's what I wanted.
Absolutely rocks it, but unfortunately
right into the GLOVE OF TEDOSO. LET'S
GO.
DEFENSIVE replacement utilized
perfectly. Romano worried. LET'S GO. I
COULDN'T HELP BUT notice kind of looks
like Amanda Bines in She's the Man but
with a beard. Very similar look going on
just with the beard which looks I don't
know. Ben Rice, he doesn't like it. He's
thought that was going to be a homer or
a double. But what a catch. Running grab
from Teddy Oso who has the fresh shave
which makes his mustache kind of look
like Peter Brady where he grabbed that
fake mustache trying to date that older
girl. Brady Bunch. I'm not that old.
Jazz Chisum is up and no one swung at
the slider out of the zone, but they
like the fast balls. So he says, "What
if I put the slider in the zone?" Oh,
takes it. doesn't swing at the fast ball
out of the zone. Another slider in the
zone. Big swing from Jazz. That's a
pitch I think Jazz says he should hit.
Hits the next one way up in the air.
That's going to be the second out.
That's going to really help Romano out.
Oh my goodness. They both said, "I got
it. You take it." The ball falls. Zach
Neto and PZA
crazy. Just a drop. He says, "Hey, it's
all right. We're okay. Romano will get
us out of this. We will not lose because
of that." Jazz is out first base. Let's
take a look now. In the post game, Neto
says, "That's on me. I'm the shortstop.
I'm supposed to take charge. That's
totally on me." Looked like he heard PZA
call for it, so he stopped, but PZA
maybe wasn't calling for it. Total panic
on his face when he realizes, "Wait, you
think I'm catching it? I thought you
were catching it." He's like, "Oh, but
dude, I thought I heard you." And he's
like, "Well, I heard you." He's, "Don't
worry." I like that from Neto right
there. We're all good. Don't even worry
about it. They should have worried about
it a little bit. It turns out Romano's
reaction kind of impressive. All he does
in reaction to this is just close his
mouth. H
Okay, I'll pick you guys up. No problem.
Austin Wells, he's up and we're going to
get strike one. That's a good start. And
then Jazz steals on the second pitch.
Stolen base is totally back. Baseball is
just full of stolen bases big moments
now. It's It's wildly more fun than when
no one was stealing. Ball two. Ball
three, strike two. Another full count
pitch. Here we go. Time. They start
playing a little head games with Romano.
They like when he gets set and then they
call time on him and then he has to
think about it some more. Yankees are
enjoying getting in his head and they do
a lot more of that coming up. So you got
a runner on second, full count, fast
ball inside. Logan Hoppy going to tap
his head to challenge it. I guess why
not? It would be the second out of the
inning. You have it saved. Why not?
Hopefully it's close. Oh,
it's low. It's away. It's not close.
Walk. He's like,
wish it was closer. But I don't think
that's a bad challenge because you have
it. Might as well burn it. Romano
breathing heavy. He's going to pick up
his team. Look at me. Let's go, baby.
Yeah. Yeah. And now we got Cababiro up.
And if you don't know anything about
Cababie, he is a pest. And so is Jazz.
And Jazz is over there giving they
couldn't even be real signals at this
point, but he's giving signals to the
batter. The Yankees did this all last
year where they would they would give
the batter what pitch after looking in
the catcher's glove, but it wasn't even
possible for him to have any
information. They're just being pess and
they're going to really put Romano
through the ringer who's struggling
against the Yankees in a tough
situation, but once again gets strike
one and now he's going to get told time
time. You have to look at him. Cabiro is
always telling the umps, you make sure
this guy looks at me. I like the eye
contact. I like seeing his pupils before
I hit. Romano's like, "All right, geez,
fine. Just let me pitch." And now
Keabby's going to intentionally like
never look at him until the final
second. So Cababiro has to get into the
box and ready at 8 seconds. He waits
that out until he's there and doesn't
give him the chance to look at him until
we get to that 98 second mark. There
we're at 9 seconds. So, it's a game of
games happening. I'm going to make sure
you look at me. I'm going to make it
hard for you to look at me because you
got 1 second window. We got a ball
there. And now Romano one and one. So,
go with fast ball slider. No, we're
going to check on Jazz and see what he's
doing. And while we're at it, we're
going to go this [ __ ] We're
going to mutter. We're going to mutter.
Jazz like come on dog. We're messing
with you. Don't be mad at us. It's all
part of the game. Big swing. Okay.
Strike two. You got him chasing the
slider. One and two's the count. Time.
Cabbie lets him get set. They have to
break his concentration to make sure he
hears it. Time. He's going to walk off
the mount. He's like, "These guys are
really mo they're really bothering me."
Boonie watching, chomping, waiting. The
one two
fouled back and both runners were
running on that pitch trying to get the
go-ahad run into scoring position. If
they can do a double steel, Welsie will
get the second. that scoring position
and a single would win him. Would win
him, I said. So, we're going to do it
again. He just fouled off the fast ball.
Maybe we get him swinging at that slider
again. Jazz is staring. He's looking,
getting fidgety. Here it comes. Another
slider in the zone this time. Kebab puts
it in play. Jazz rounds third. Wells was
running on the pitch. He's going to go
all the way from first, second, third.
Home. Safe. Yankees win on their
catcher, scoring from first on a ball
that never got behind the outfield. I
don't think they expected him to run.
And look at the look at the look in
Cabby's eye and Jazz's eye. They just
pested the hell out of Romano there.
It's just like a frightening face. Crazy
ending. The popup looms large. Judge is
like, "Let's wait for the replay, guys.
Let's not celebrate till we see." Come
on now. Turn. Look at the jumbotron.
Let's get this. Okay.
Safe. They confirm it. It was close. It
was close. But now, let's watch. Oh,
I don't think he realized it was that
close. And then Judge is going to get
the the water all over him.
Rico.
And there. That's the end of the video.
Others brought to you by me.
