Gunnar Henderson gets thrown at by the Padres, a breakdown
What Happened
This is the manager of the Padres's, Craig Stamon, and he specifically said he did not want to be in a video of mine. >> I'm going to put my hand over my mouth as much as I can.
Why This Matters
Craig Stamon literally begged Jomboy not to put him in a video, and then he gets caught on camera during a Gunnar Henderson plunking with his hand over his mouth trying to hide what he's saying. The irony is too good to pass up, and now we're breaking down exactly what the Padres skipper was desperately trying to hide.
Nearly 200K people had to see Stamon's mouth-covering fail, landing this one at #1052 on the all-time breakdown list.

>> I'm going to put my hand over my mouth
as much as I can. Don't need to get on
John Boy. I think that's those are my
biggest worries.
>> That was at the start of the season and
there was an article that just came out
with him again saying, "I'm not trying
to get on John Boy." And unfortunately,
here he is. He covered his mouth. Let's
see if I could see through it and figure
out what he's saying. First, let's start
at the beginning. Manny Machado is up
and we are in the fifth inning of a
two-run game. First pitch strike top of
the zone with a fast ball. This one's
brought to you by Seedgeek. The next
pitch, they're going to go bottom of the
zone and they call it a ball because the
catcher was looking to throw the runner
out. I don't even think the runner took
off. That is a strike. Uh Manny Machado
just nodding his head like good call.
Really good call. Anyway, the next pitch
right up and in. The two seamer, the
sinker from Gibson just goes up and in.
They check the swing. That's rude. Guy
fell down thinking he was going to get
take a ball to the face and you're
saying, did he swing? Imagine if they
said swing. That would have stunk.
Anyway, at bat continues, but that was
the first pitch that was at a player.
So, it's our first little benchmark in
this story. Manny ends up putting one on
the ground. They try to turn the double
play. to get the out at second and then
at first punched out, but Manny said he
was safe. So, they go into the dugout.
Hold on, my guy's checking. Hold on, my
guy's checking. My guy. Uh, yeah, let's
challenge it. Okay, we're going to
challenge you, Blue, what are you going
to challenge? Uh, all of it. All of it.
Mostly at first base where you can see
he's safe. The foot comes down before
the ball hits the back of the glove. So,
he's safe. After review, the out call at
second is confirmed. The runner is out.
The out call at first base, however, is
overturned to save. San Diego will
retain their challenge.
>> So, good challenge by the Padres's. And
now Bogarts is up and he's going to find
himself in a 1-1 count as well. This was
the danger pitch to Manny Machado. The
Baltimore Orioles in 1-1 pitches. Watch
your head because oh boy, this one
doesn't just miss. This one hits
directly. What are you doing? What's
going on?
figure it out. That's a scary sight cuz
it hit him right in the ear flap. Don't
think he's trying to do that. Looks like
that two seam fast ball is going to just
run. I mean, the pitch does that. It's
supposed to in baseball they say armside
run cuz that's the side of the body that
the pitcher's arm is on and the ball
will just run that way. It'll move that
way and it just keeps going right into
the ear hole. So, that's I mean really
scary to be honest with you. It like
kind of hit him flush. You want that to
be like a uh hit and ding off and it
just really rattles the ear. They show
the helmet and there's like a mark on
it. You can see the laces on the helmet.
They're doing all their tests. They take
Gibson out of the game and he's not
feeling great about it. They bring in a
new pitcher and then we're going to move
on cuz now Gunnar Henderson is up in the
bottom of the seventh inning and there's
a fiveun lead and there's two outs. So,
if you want to get some revenge for
throwing at our guys' heads, here's your
chance. Two outs, their star players up.
You got a decent lead. First pitch up
and in, almost hits his elbow, but
misses it. The next pitch, right at his
hip. So, you got to think, okay, we know
what you're doing. You tried to hit me
because we accidentally hit you. Okay.
Stamon looking out like really wish he
would have hit him because now it's
going to keep going and that's kind of
how baseball works for good or for bad.
That's how it works. Well anyway in the
seventh inning, Gunnar and goes on to
walk and just discards the bat with
anger. Pretty upset with them. You tried
twice and you didn't hit me and now I'm
up in the bottom of the ninth. Are you
going to hit me again? Cuz now it's even
a better time if you want to get your
revenge. Just at bat doesn't matter.
They're up six runs. It's the bottom of
the ninth inning. There are two outs.
The game is somewhat over. So, let's get
our revenge. You can't throw it our
guy's head. Bam. They hit him. That's
what they want to do earlier. Henderson
doesn't like it at all. You had your
shot. You blew it. Now, it should be out
of sight, out of mind. You shouldn't get
any more chances. The umpires are going
to get together and talk. And they're
going to put everything into play here.
You know, where were we at in the game?
The fact that they tried to hit him
earlier. Stamon in the dugout. He
doesn't understand why they're even
talking. He's like, "Hey, what are we
meeting about? What are you meeting
about? What's going on? Hey, what are we
meeting about? Gunner will let you know.
He said, "That's three [ __ ] tries."
That's what they're talking about.
Happened once, twice, third time they
got him. He says, "No, he's gone. He's
gone." You know, there's two outs in the
ninth inning. He threw his first pitch
right at him. He's been fine all inning.
Stamon can't believe it. No way. YOU GOT
to be kidding me. You got to be kidding
me. No way. No way. We have to pitch him
in.
That's not even close. You tried last
time he was at the
>> We did not. Yeah. Yes, you did. Yes, you
did.
No. Come on, man. That's [ __ ]
That's freaking [ __ ] And you know
it is. You have to warn us the first
time. So, for people that don't watch a
lot of baseball, usually they will warn
both teams before an ejection. So Stamon
is saying, "You have to warn us before
an ejection. You just you just jump
straight to the ejection. Where are the
warnings?" And the umpire is basically
saying, "I don't need to do [ __ ] dude.
We're the umps.
We make the rules." Uh, no. What the
umpire says is he says, "If I put
warnings out, you would have come out
here and bitched. I know you would."
Basically saying, "What's the
difference, Craig? You're coming out and
complaining either way. It's two outs in
the ninth." Didn't he hit him on
purpose? CRAIG SAYS IT'S [ __ ]
[ __ ] THAT'S A [ __ ] HORSESHIT
CALL. And now the umpire is kind of
smiling. He knows that Steam wants to
get ejected and he's kind of toying with
him. A rookie ump wants to get ejected.
Umpire is like just all right. Do
something a little more and I'll get
you. So he's like a little more. All
right, I'll stop covering my mouth and
I'll wave my arms in the air and I'll
say the exact same thing. That's a
[ __ ] horseshit CALL. LET'S GO. COME
ON.
>> UNBELIEVABLE.
The umpire's view of this is really
good. After he gave him a little bit
more and got ejected, he says, "All
right, that's good. Gone." Okay.
A little passion. I like it.
So, uh, there you have it. He knew he
wanted to get ejected. So, umpire
basically saying, "Hey, man. You got to
take your hand away from your mouth and
make this a big thing." So, I eject you
and it looks warranted, you know?
Otherwise, it looks like I'm ejecting
you for nothing. Make it obvious that
you're yelling at me like these kids are
being obvious about yelling at you. You
don't do that as fans to my guy Craig.
He didn't want to get ejected. He didn't
want me to read his lips. He just wanted
to stand up for his guys. This breakdown
is brought to you by Segeek, where you
can use code Johnboy 10 to get 10% off
any ticket. Code Johnboy10, 10% off. Go

wrapping up besides that one big one.
But it's baseball. It's summer.
