We broke 50k subscribers, a thank you

The creator behind the popular breakdown videos just hit 50,000 subscribers and took a few minutes to explain how things got here. What started in 2017 as a Yankees-focused podcast and side hustle has blown up into a full-on media push. He quit his full-time job to launch Talkin’ Yanks, and it’s gone from gifs on Twitter to full game breakdowns on YouTube. Though the channel’s growing fast, the videos aren’t monetized due to MLB’s strict content controls. He says trying to monetize would trigger takedowns and delays, which kills the value of timely analysis.

To keep things sustainable, he’s launched a Patreon for fans who want to support the work. Two bucks a month helps cover the grind of late-night editing, and it opens the door for extras like live chats, request videos, and monthly jersey giveaways. YouTube comments can get messy, so Patreon may also become the main spot for talking baseball in a more controlled, respectful way. There’s a new show in the works too, focused more broadly on MLB, that might include live episodes exclusive to supporters. He’s clear that nothing’s behind a paywall—everyone can still watch the breakdowns if that’s all they’re into. Just don’t be rude about other content on the channel. And, he adds with a smirk, go Yanks—but not the Red Sox.
