What Happened

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Oakland Athletics and the Chicago White Sox are tied 2-2 in a close game. A's outfielder Chad Pinder steps up to the plate against White Sox reliever Jake Diekman. Pinder singles, reaching base and bringing the winning run to the plate for Oakland. Next, A's infielder Seth Brown steps in and fouls off the first pitch from Diekman. On the second offering, Brown hits a ground ball to the shortstop, who tries to make the play but misfires, throwing the ball away. The error allows Pinder to race around the bases, scoring the winning run and giving the Athletics a dramatic walk-off victory. "Pinder gets on base," the announcer describes. "Next up, the off-speed for strike one. Next pitch to the shortstop, he was a little playing over it, makes the throw - oh no!" The ball rolls into foul territory as Pinder slides into home plate, sparking a celebration on the field. "That's the walk-off, folks!" the announcer exclaims. "That's as exciting as it gets." A's outfielder Ramon Laureano rushes over to join the celebration, but has trouble finding who to douse with Gatorade. He ends up just tossing the cooler, soaking outfielder Robbie Grossman, who had been pinch-hit for earlier in the inning. "He couldn't figure out who to dump it on, so he just tosses it," the announcer says, as Grossman stands bewildered, taking off his sunglasses and surveying the chaotic celebration around him. Despite the unexpected Gatorade shower, the Athletics players revel in the dramatic come-from-behind victory to sweep the White Sox and start the second half of their season on a high note.
