Fleury thanks both posts after shootout win, a breakdown
What Happened
In a tightly-contested game between the Chicago Blackhawks and an unspecified opponent, the score is tied late in the third period. The Blackhawks need to score to force overtime, and they do just that, knotting the game at one goal apiece. The action then shifts to the overtime period, where both teams have chances to score the game-winning goal, but the posts on the net play a crucial role, denying several shots. The game ultimately heads to a shootout to determine the winner. The first shooter for the opposing team beats Blackhawks goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, but the puck clanks off the post. Fleury is seen thanking the post, acknowledging its role in keeping the shot out. The next shooter for the opposing team also hits the post, much to Fleury's amusement. He continues to interact with the posts, playfully thanking them for their defensive efforts. Finally, the Blackhawks are able to score in the shootout, putting the pressure on Fleury to make one more save to secure the victory. Fleury does just that, and before celebrating with his teammates, he takes a moment to once again acknowledge the posts, thanking them for their support throughout the game. Fleury, who appears quite young for an NHL goaltender, displays a lighthearted and endearing personality, treating the posts as if they were his teammates. The commentator notes that this type of interaction with the inanimate objects is not uncommon for Fleury, who has a history of developing "personalities" for the posts and treating them as allies in his quest to stop opposing shooters. Despite the tough luck experienced by the opposing team, who seemed to hit the posts on multiple occasions, Fleury's gratitude and playful banter with the posts captivates the audience and provides a lighthearted moment in an otherwise tense and competitive game. The Blackhawks ultimately emerge victorious, with Fleury's appreciation for his "teammates" the posts playing a key role in the outcome.

Click timestamps to jump to that momentWe got a goalie after the game before thanking his teammates. He thanks his true
teammates to the post, and I'll go back to the beginning and explain it, but
I've been doing so many hockey breakdowns that are just fights and bitings and yellings
and screamings and all of that and Superman punches, and someone suggested this, and it's
just so damn cute. I love it. The Blackhawks are down one goal in the
third period, and to make this game go into overtime, they've got to tie it
up, so I'm showing you that right now. Boom, it's brought to you by DraftKings.

down the line. We go to OT, and here's where the posts start playing a
big role. This guy beats the goalie, but it hits the post, so did he
even beat the goalie? Maybe the goalie. No, he beat the goalie. Hit the post.
There's a lot of net open for him, so we go to a shootout, and
here's the first guy from Washington, and he's going to beat him to the left,
but no, hits the post, and he says, oh, man, thanks, little buddy. Always having
my back. Look at this. Bam. A lot of net, too. Sometimes you're like, maybe,
well, that's the only angle he had. No, no, no. He just deserves
some thanks. He says, hey, how about you? want to help me out, too? The
next guy hits the other post. He's like, damn, man. These guys, I love these
guys. Thank you, buddy. Appreciate it. Massaging it up, saying thanks. Finally,
Blackhawks do put one in, so now he just needs to make one more save.
Is the crossbar going to get involved now? No. no, no. He probably didn't go
up top because of that, and that's what he does. He goes back. He says,
hey, before I thank my teammates, I've got to thank you guys. In my head,
he talks to the posts all game. He's got names for them. He's got, like,
personalities. The left side is a little zanier than the right side, but ain't that
life. And then he says, you know, what up to his teammates. Feels pretty bad
for Washington, just hitting posts all day, playing chimes out there. But, yeah, I like
that. How young is this goalie? This was the thing that stood out to me.
This guy looks like his bring -your -son -to -work day, and his dad is
the starting goalie, and he got to dress up like the backup goalie. How young
is this? I mean, it's like the youngest. I don't know. Sprong is also
an awesome name. So many awesome names in hockey. This one's brought to you by

What's this guy's name? Van Riemsdick. Protus was the guy in the middle.
Michael. Mick Michael. Hathaway. Mick Michael. Dowd. Sprong.
Protus. What was that one? Fehevavi.
Yeah, he does this a lot. So this is like back in 2009, Florida, when
he was on the Penguins. Just making his posts, hanging out with him, saying hi.
So that's kind of his thing. Do a lot of goalies do this? I know
a lot of goalies are weird, but this is just cute. I liked it. Thanks
for submitting it.
