Coach screams at the ref after two bad calls, a breakdown
What Happened
In a heated matchup between the Florida Panthers and the Toronto Maple Leafs, the game takes a dramatic turn as tensions flare between the teams and the officiating crew. As the play unfolds, Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen accidentally knocks his own stick out of his hands, leaving it stranded on the ice. The loose stick becomes a point of contention, as the referees deem it to be interference by Panthers forward Sam Bennett, who had inadvertently kicked the stick while skating. The officials assess a penalty to Bennett, much to the bewilderment of the Panthers' coaching staff. Head coach Andrew Brunette and assistant coach Geordie Kinnear engage in heated discussions with the officials, trying to understand the reasoning behind the call. After a lengthy deliberation, the referees acknowledge their mistake and decide to rescind the penalty, allowing play to continue. However, the confusion and frustration on the Panthers' bench is palpable, with Brunette and Kinnear visibly upset with the officials' handling of the situation. Later in the second period, another controversial call occurs when the Maple Leafs are assessed a penalty for a collision near the net. Maple Leafs forward William Nylander expresses his displeasure, throwing his stick in frustration. The Panthers' coaching staff once again questions the officials' decision, with Brunette closely examining the replay on the bench's TV monitor to try and understand the reasoning behind the call. The officials struggle to articulate the exact nature of the infraction, with one referee stumbling over the terminology and repeatedly referring to the penalty as "charging, charging, tuna for charging." The Panthers' bench is left bewildered, with Kinnear shaking his head in disbelief at the officiating. Ultimately, the controversial penalty call leads to a Maple Leafs power-play goal, further angering the Panthers' coaching staff. In the post-game interview, Brunette expresses his frustration, stating that the officials "don't like me" and that the calls had nothing to do with his players' performance. The NHL subsequently fines Brunette for his comments, but the incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by coaches and players when dealing with questionable officiating decisions in the fast-paced and highly competitive world of professional hockey.

this breakdown is brought to you by
DraftKings he's going to knock his own
goalie stick out of his hands there and
then they keep playing and the sticks
just in the middle of the ice lonely not
being thought about kind of sad we're
all looking at that and only feeling you
can have is a little bit of sadness for
the stick that's just getting utterly
neglected the play keeps happening now
he's got company and finally guy says
I'll give this back to my goalie but it
hits Panther guy in the skate and then
he clears the stick out of his way cuz
that's dangerous to have a stick around
when the Puck's flying around the ref
says that was interference you sabotaged
the stick pass you did that on purpose
you didn't want the goalie to have his
stick I saw it and you're getting a
penalty for it everyone's confused
they're like what who's getting the
penalty the whole bench is doing double
takes like what they're both getting
penalties assistant coach scratching his
head like what the hell's going on who
wait who what head coach wait what
what's going on the guy on the Maple
Leafs is going to the box he thinks it's
him he's just going to skate in they're
like okay I guess I'll accept this and
Bennett for the Panthers is like it's me
and the other guy's not getting penalty
oh oh hold on hold on trying to figure
it out wait we're getting a penalty and
it's not what is the what looks at the
TV by his feet comes hey

happened huh did you see Frankie you got
to talk got to talk to him no the other

at come on so the refs get together and
like maybe he's got maybe he's got a
point maybe we should talk to each other
what did you see well I saw that the
goalie was reaching for and he kicked it
away and then he hit it away and the
other ref is like well no I don't think
he kicked it away I think he just
incidentally skated into it and then it
was in front and that's kind of
dangerous and the other ref's like well
37 went to the Box someone's got to get
a penalty here why don't we just give
him one cuz he he he felt like he was
guilty anyway and they say yeah okay
that'll save face he fixes his glasses
and stares and they're like yeah you
know what you're free to go man we had
it all
wrong but you you're done and he's like
what did I mess myself up by going in
here on purpose and that's the call 37
did nothing I mean he's just tying him
up in front and then the puck comes and
he lifts his stick and that's all so ter
reing we're going to go to later in the
second period where Maple Leafs got
something going three on two he's opened
on the wing big old Collision the puck
doesn't go in but it was pretty close
the Nets off the goalie's down and the
ref say penalty on you you're going to
the box and he's like for me why it was
a lot of penalties he throws something
there it bounces back to him he tries to
catch it would have felt cool if he did
feels a little embarrassed that he
didn't really thought that was going to
be a big moment there for him and it's
not and the coach again is like what
what's going on checks the tvb's feet
trying to figure it out he's like what's
the penalty called do you
know huh okay gotcha all right so just
wait this out and see what's going on
but he's preparing to be mad guy behind
him is just eating some food he's going
to take a call soon they go back to
watch it and they're both skating
towards the puck he actually touches
this the puck before they make physical
number for charging Charing I don't even
understand that guy for charging Flor
number t for charging Char for charging
for Charing
Charing for Charing I mean he's really
struggling on the word minutes for
charging Char tuna for charging just
sounds like tuna for charging tuna for
charging Char tuna for charging Charing
the charging was the call they're
[ __ ] skating half the [ __ ] ice
together they're [ __ ] skating to the
net
together [ __ ] man that's so awful mean
while the guy behind him just in his own
world not a care for what's going on on
the phone yeah I'm at this game they're
all yelling at each other all mad I
don't know it's stupid I got seats
company sent me it's dumb oh enough
Frank looks down at the TV again sees
the call he oh my
God what is going on here and that call
led to a maple leaf skull so that's not
fun they play around they're on the
power play they got the puck down there
it's up there it's a goal coach can't
believe it unbelievable after the game
he said that this wasn't his players
doing and he told his players don't
worry it's not you guys that ref just
doesn't like me we have a pass together
and that's why basically here it is and
then the NHL said you're fined can't say
that thanks draftking for sponsoring the
breakdown appreciate you guys as always
and thank you guys for watching and if
you want to subscribe you could do that
