Jaguars take advantage of Bosa's dumb penalty, a breakdown
What Happened
The Jacksonville Jaguars are trailing the San Francisco 49ers by 10 points late in the game, but they mount a furious comeback. Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence throws a touchdown pass to narrow the deficit. On the ensuing extra point attempt, 49ers star defensive end Joey Bosa becomes visibly upset, apparently believing he was held on the play. Bosa slams his helmet to the ground in frustration, drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that moves the ball half the distance to the goal line. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson decides to go for the two-point conversion from the 1-yard line instead of kicking the extra point. Lawrence sneaks the ball into the end zone, tying the game at 26-26. "He got in," the television analyst exclaims, replaying the scoring play. With the game tied late, the Jaguars' defense comes up with a crucial stop, forcing a 49ers punt. Rookie kicker Riley Patterson then steps up and drills the game-winning 48-yard field goal as time expires, giving Jacksonville the dramatic 29-26 victory. As the Jaguars celebrate, the camera pans to a dejected Joey Bosa on the 49ers' sideline. "Did I mess up?" Bosa appears to ask himself, regretting the costly penalty that swung the outcome of the playoff clash. The Jaguars' kicker takes a moment to remove his necklace before joining his teammates in the celebration, saying "Don't celebrate me. Celebrate this." This hard-fought playoff matchup came down to the final seconds, with the Jaguars seizing the opportunity presented by Bosa's emotional outburst to pull off the comeback win. The victory propels Jacksonville to the next round of the postseason, while the 49ers are left to lament the crucial mistake that proved decisive.

this game, but I'm just solely focusing on the Bosa penalty that led to the decision to go for
two. So here you go. They're down by 10. They were down by a lot. They came all the way back,
and they're going to throw it into the end zone for the touchdown. But on this play,
Joey Bosa right here is upset because maybe he thinks that he jumped early. Maybe he thinks
that he got held here. Maybe both happened. Maybe he's got a right to be upset. Maybe the
ref doesn't like him because he's an Ohio guy. Maybe he's just a crybaby. Did he jump early?
It's really, really close, like with the naked eye. I don't know if you're getting that,
but he was pissed about it, so he takes his helmet off, slams it on the ground, comes up
looking like Heath Ledger from the Patriot with the ponytail like that, all sad and haggard a
little. The head.
The coach. He's like, I'll get your helmet for you, Joey. I'll get your helmet for you. Here
you go. He's like, don't want it. I already threw it once. Why would I want it? Huh? Sits down to
catch his breath, and now I'm getting young George Washington vibes. I mean, either way,
we're just in the Revolutionary War.
That's worse than right conduct. Defense number 97.
That's the difference.
So fucking joke. He gets a penalty because you can't throw your helmet on the field of play,
and he says, I'm done.
I don't think he plays again.
After this, and now they line up and they line up at the one yard line instead of the two yard
line because of the penalty, and they asked Doug Peterson after the game whether he would have gone
for two without the extra yard. He said, probably not. Now, maybe he's just needling Bosa there,
but it makes a lot of sense to go for it because you're one yard closer, and you're probably more
confident you can just pick up that than two. I don't know. Here's some math for those that are
terrible at math. They're down by four. If they kick the extra point, they're now down by three.
A field goal.
Why is it you need a touchdown to win it? If they go for two and miss, they stay at 26. You still
need a touchdown to win it. If they go for two, they get it. They bump up to 28, and now you kick
a field goal to win it. So the only instance where you kick the field goal to win it is if you convert
the two-point conversion. Joey Bosa threw his helmet, made it half the distance for them,
which is a bit easier. So they say, okay, now we're definitely going to go for it. They line up,
they snap, and Lawrence takes the ball and just reaches out because that's how far away he is now.
Pretty easy. They say, he didn't get in, he didn't get in. Well, he did get in, and it's kind of cool.
Good job by the camera guy here. That's a cool shot. Blur the background. Nice. Awesome. 49. He's
like, he didn't get in, he didn't get in. He got in. Bosa on the sideline. Still young George
Washington vibes to me. Just the nose, the eyes, kind of the whole vibe, the messy hair. Let's go.
Now all I got to do is get a three and out.
Stop them, get the ball, kick the field goal. They stopped them. It's fourth and one,
and they go all the way around, all the way around. They get in the field goal range,
stays in bounds. They're going to run another play to kill the clock, bring in the kicker and his
cross, and he is ready to go. It's up. It's over. It's not that over. It's good. Jaguars win.
Bosa on the sidelines thinking, oh man, did I mess up? The kicker, they want to celebrate. He's like,
wait, hold on. Let me get my necklace off. It's tight. It's a little tight,
a little tight on the face there. He's like, this is what did it. Don't celebrate me. Celebrate
this. And this breakdown was brought to you by Seat Geek. Use code John boy. You get $20
