What Happened

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trailing the San Francisco 49ers 3-2 in the second quarter of their Week 1 matchup. Quarterback Tom Brady (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) hands the ball off to tight end Cameron Brate (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), who rumbles into the end zone for what appears to be the Buccaneers' first touchdown of the game. Brate spikes the ball emphatically, celebrating his score. However, the play is called back due to a holding penalty on offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs (Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Now facing 2nd and 17, Brady drops back and completes a pass, but it is nearly intercepted. On 3rd and 17, Brady finds Brate again and the tight end makes a highlight-reel catch, taking the ball all the way down to the 2-yard line. An exuberant Brate grabs the ball and hands it to the referee, eager to try for the touchdown again. On the next play, Brady again looks for Brate in the end zone. Brate makes a fantastic catch, getting both feet inbounds for what should be the Buccaneers' first touchdown. However, the play is once again negated by a holding penalty, this time on offensive lineman Luke Goedeke (Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Brate is visibly frustrated, having had two touchdowns taken away on the same drive. Now facing 3rd and goal, Brady's pass is punched out of Brate's hands and the Buccaneers turn the ball over on downs, ending their frustrating drive without any points to show for it. Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles and the coaching staff can be seen on the sideline, shaking their heads in disbelief at the series of unfortunate events that have unfolded. "It's just kind of a sad and frustrating drive," says the commentator. "Two touchdowns on the drive, none of them count." The Buccaneers' fans in the stands share in the team's disappointment, lamenting the lost opportunities and the missed chances to get on the scoreboard. Despite the setback, the Buccaneers will need to regroup and find a way to overcome the 49ers' early lead. With the game still in the second quarter, there is plenty of time left for Tampa Bay to mount a comeback and secure their first victory of the season.
