Gleyber Torres hits the walk off and the Yankees celebrate, a breakdown
What Happened
In a back-and-forth affair at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays are tied 7-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two men on base, Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres steps up to the plate, looking to be the hero. Torres takes the first pitch for a ball, then fouls off the second offering. He lays off an offspeed pitch, putting himself in a hittable 1-2 count. Torres makes the necessary adjustment, driving the next pitch into play. Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius scampers home from third base, sliding in safely with the game-winning run. "That's the winning run! We're smiling, big ole smiles from Didi!" exclaims the play-by-play announcer, as the Yankees celebrate on the field. Third base coach Phil Nevin congratulates Gregorius and the rest of the Yankees rush out to mob Torres near home plate. "Here we go, we're gonna get 'em!" the announcer says, as the players embrace and slap each other on the back. Yankees first baseman Luke Voit and catcher Gary Sánchez join in the raucous celebration, holding Torres in place as the team dumps a cooler of water over his head. "If this ain't the cutest thing - hold them still so we can get 'em, boys!" the announcer laughs, as the soaked players spin around and laugh together. Voit discards the empty bucket, the pure joy evident on the faces of the jubilant Yankees. "I like this shot of Aaron Judge, 'cause Judge is the biggest human to ever exist," the announcer notes, as the towering slugger towers over his teammates, his massive hands dwarfing Gleyber Torres' head. "Judge, you're a freak, man. Holy, that just scares me, actually." The celebration continues, with Gary Sánchez getting in on the action as the Yankees savor the walk-off victory. It's a moment of pure elation for the home team, who have battled back from a late deficit to secure the win in front of their raucous fans.
