Tom Wilson and Brendan Lemieux drop the gloves, a breakdown
What Happened
Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals and Brendan Lemieux of the New York Rangers engage in a heated fight on the ice during their NHL matchup. The action starts when Wilson is hit hard into the boards, causing him to go down. On the next shift, Wilson looks for retribution and targets Lemieux, who gets sandwiched against the boards. Lemieux grabs Wilson's skate, refusing to let him leave and the two players immediately drop their gloves to fight. Lemieux aggressively goes after Wilson's body, landing several solid punches. The two players re-grip and continue exchanging blows, with Lemieux aiming for Wilson's exposed head once his helmet comes off. Lemieux connects with a powerful one-two punch, snapping Wilson's head back and sending his hair flying. Wilson tries to retaliate but is unable to land any significant hits as Lemieux dominates the fight. "Lemieux's crushing," the announcer remarks, praising the Rangers forward's performance. Wilson misses several attempted punches before Lemieux lands another clean shot, described as the "puppet shot" that goes "straight up the hole." The fight continues with both players falling to the ice, but Lemieux gets in one more shot for good measure before the referees intervene and separate the two combatants. The heated matchup between the Capitals and Rangers has a long history of physical play and bad blood. With the game tied 1-1 in the late stages, the fight between Wilson and Lemieux adds to the intensity and rivalry between these two Metropolitan Division foes. "Good fight. I enjoyed this one," the announcer concludes, as the players are escorted to the penalty box after their spirited battle on the ice.

Click timestamps to jump to that momentWe had a good fight in the Rangers -Capitals game, thanks to whoever suggested this
one, because it's fun. First off, Wilson's going to get hit into the boards there.
Nice little pop gets him. We don't get to see the end of this, because
NBC didn't show it, but I think he went down hard. Fast forward a little
bit, it's the same shift. Wilson's like, I got to hit somebody now. If I
got hit, hell yeah. Well, here's Lemieux, and he kind of gets sandwiched and fall,
and then Lemieux grabs his skate, and he's like, hey, I didn't like that. You're
not getting out of here. I'm going to hold your skate, and then Lemieux's like,
well, actually, let's just fight. Go straight in the fight mode, and Wilson thinks it's
in cross -check mode. Get your mode right. We're fighting. So eventually, the gloves get
dropped, and Lemieux's just working on the body. He's going body shot. Now they're re
-gripping for a little bit. Okay, body shot, body shot. Here comes, and that's a
nice one. Another body shot. Wilson's helmet's now fully off, and he's trying to trade
punches, but not getting any in. Now they're going to re -grip, figure things out,
and now Lemieux sees that his helmet's off. He's like, should I go for the
head? Should I go for the head? One more body shot, and then let's
clock him. Bam. That's a good punch. The second one's a good punch. Look at
the slow -mo on that second one. Boom. Wilson's hair looks really nice, but his
face got smashed in. He tried to hit Lemieux back. Didn't really land one. He's
going to land one here in the future, but so far, Rangers are winning this
fight. Brandon Lemieux's crushing. There's a little missed punch. I think there's another missed punch
by Wilson. There's another missed punch by Wilson. Now this is called the puppet shot,
just straight up the hole. Didn't get anything, and then he lands that one right
there, and the hair goes flying, and then that one kind of landed, and then
they're going to just fall on each other. But Lemieux got some good body shots
in there, and two solid head ones. One more, just for good measure. They fall
over. Now the refs get to get involved, and it's a four -way hug fest
on the ice. Good fight. I enjoyed this one.
