CC Sabathia dislocates his shoulder and tries to stay in the game, a breakdown
What Happened
New York Yankees veteran pitcher CC Sabathia is on the mound in the fifth inning against the Houston Astros. The Yankees are trailing in the game, but Sabathia is determined to battle through and give his team a chance to win. On a pitch, Sabathia suddenly grabs his shoulder in pain, indicating he has dislocated it. Despite the injury, Sabathia refuses to come out of the game. He tells catcher Gary Sánchez to get back behind the plate and Sabathia throws another pitch, to the roar of the Yankee Stadium crowd. Sabathia's toughness and dedication to his team are on full display, as he tries to pitch through the obvious pain in his shoulder. The training staff comes out to examine Sabathia and he tells them he feels like his shoulder "popped out of its socket." However, Sabathia insists on staying in the game, saying he has been playing through a 10-out-of-10 level of pain in his knee and shoulder all season. The Yankee fans rise to their feet, cheering loudly for their beloved pitcher, appreciating his warrior-like mentality and unwillingness to give up on his team. Sabathia throws one more pitch before the training staff is finally able to convince him to leave the game. It's a tough scene, as the 39-year-old Sabathia, a future Hall of Famer, is making his final appearance as a Yankee pitcher. He has been a dominant force for the team for over a decade, racking up 3,000 strikeouts, 250 wins and establishing himself as one of the greatest left-handed pitchers of his era. "This is who CC is," says the announcer. "He's a f***ing warrior and a gamer and wants to help his team and his teammates at all costs. And it's kind of badass that he literally pitched until his body said we can't do this anymore." Sabathia's heroic effort, even in the face of a debilitating injury, exemplifies the passion and dedication he has brought to the game throughout his illustrious career. As he walks off the field, the Yankee faithful show their appreciation for a true legend of the sport.
