Doc Gooden Charges the Mound and Darryl Strawberry gets mad, a breakdown
What Happened
The Mets and Phillies are facing off in a heated 1990 matchup. New York Mets pitcher Dwight "Doc" Gooden steps up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, with his team trailing by one. Tensions are already high, as Gooden had hit two Phillies batters earlier in the game. As Gooden approaches the batter's box, he is clearly upset. Phillies pitcher and former Mets teammate Kevin Gross immediately throws at Gooden without even looking for a sign from the catcher. Gooden is furious, dropping his bat, glove and helmet as he charges the mound. Gooden lands a right forearm strike directly to Gross's nose, drawing blood. Phillies catcher Darren Daulton rushes in, putting Gooden in a headlock and raining down punches to the back of his head. Meanwhile, Mets outfielder Darryl Strawberry, watching from the dugout, sees Daulton's actions and is enraged. Strawberry sprints onto the field, leaping into the scrum without his feet ever touching the ground. Strawberry and Daulton begin exchanging blows as the benches clear and the brawl escalates. Mets pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre and Phillies manager Nick Leyva try to intervene, but the players refuse to be separated. Umpire Joe West aggressively manhandles several players, ordering them off the field. Mets broadcaster Ron Darling, observing the chaos from the broadcast booth, calmly puts on his jacket as the fight rages on. The melee drags on for over 20 minutes, with multiple skirmishes breaking out across the field. Strawberry repeatedly tries to get back at Daulton, shouting "I won't forget what Daulton did! He's good at sucker punching!" Daulton defiantly responds, telling Strawberry to "pack a lunch" if he wants to take him on. Eventually, the umpires simply give up trying to restore order, allowing the players to sort out their differences. Gooden, his nose bloodied, stands up for himself against his former teammate Gross. As the combatants finally disperse, the stage is set for future confrontations between these fierce division rivals.

good and this is him talking I
understand what Combs was doing too but

respect for her and there was no way I'd
throw it on but when Combs went out to
the mound for the fifth inning
I was mad before I even got into the
batter's box I knew what was going to
happen he didn't even get a sign from
the catcher he just went on the mound
and threw the ball as a pitcher I know
that means he intended to hit me all
along so he's pretty quick thinking cuz
he gets hit the bat goes down the glove
goes down the helmet goes down and then
Doc's gonna try and throw her right here
kind of gets the forearm right to the
nose and now the catcher Daulton he
comes in and he's gonna get him in a
headlock and start throwing punches to
the back of his head which isn't that
cool then this guy's gonna fly in never
touching the ground at all just like on
a magic carpet ride meanwhile Dalton's
just hammer in the back of DOC good and
said here's another look at it doc with
the right to the nose kind of a forearm

he jumps on top there he's having fun

know he's at the beach with his girl and
a wind just picked up so he threw his
throws on his jacket just looking great
they get good into the side now we got
strawberry here and Dalton there and
strawberries pissed at Dalton Dalton

give a [ __ ] so they get him to the side
they got docked to the side and now
strawberry comes back for more and
strawberry's gonna hear and then we're
gonna cut to a pretty [ __ ] up skit

it's Sasser with Hayes and he's just
kind of like choking him his pinned him
down it was kind of like a one-on-one
battle that everyone else was like that
seems [ __ ] out so anyway now we got
Krupp holding strawberry back
strawberry is so upset he wants to kill
Dalton because he saw Dalton sucker or
cheap shot good into the back of the
head so he gets over here McDowell and
Crocker holding him back they're like
calm down Daryl calm down doc gooden
soft to the side sasser's off the side
Hayes is like Jesus Astor what the [ __ ]
was that about
and then joe wes is manhandling more
people he's got a bunch of people shout
out joe ass just doing good jobs doc

they got to get him off and this is the
fun part

runs over now they all and then BAM I
don't know who that was that tackled
strawberry but he got close and now the
umpires are just standing in the
background the umpires are like alright
well we tried and now will you give up
we're not gonna do anything anymore
and they just let everything happen this
went on for 20 minutes this brawl kind
of crazy just scrum after scrum after
scrum pulling people off holding people
back strawberry going crazy darling
looking fantastic Sasser with a little
bit of a sociopath pinned down of haze
doc gooden stands up for himself combs
gets a bloody doze is that Bowa right
there I don't know why I let this clip
linger for as long as I did they all go
their own way
