What Happened

In a tightly contested game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets, Bryce Harper finds himself at the center of a controversial moment in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the Mets leading 2-1, Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper allows a routine fly ball to drop, allowing the Mets' Todd Frazier to score and extend the lead. Phillies manager Joe Girardi looks on in frustration as Harper appears to misjudge the play. In the next inning, Bryce Harper steps up to the plate with two outs. He rips a ball down the line, but the umpire calls it foul, a decision that Harper vehemently disagrees with. Phillies pitcher Seth Lugo fields the grounder and completes the out with the help of Frazier, ending the inning. Between innings, a visibly frustrated Bryce Harper approaches the umpire and says, "I just want to talk to you about it. Hey, ump, I'm just trying to talk to you about it. Be a professional." The umpire responds, "I'm not talking to you," prompting Harper to say, "Why? Come on, I'm just trying to talk to you about it. That's all I'm trying to do, be a professional." The umpire then ejects Harper from the game, much to Harper's disbelief. "Are you f***ing kidding me?" Harper exclaims. "Now you can hear him here. I really like the little to Neil Walker right here when he goes like, 'No, seriously dude, I got this. Let me go.'" Harper then approaches the umpire again, saying, "How do you throw me out right now? I'm just asking about the play one time. Be a professional." The umpire stands firm and Harper returns to the dugout, pleading his case to his teammates. "I didn't say one cuss word," Harper explains. "I said, 'Be a professional and talk to me, please.' That's all I said. He said, 'I'm not gonna talk to you.' That's no, that's really bad. I said nothing. I might have talked back, but I did not bait him to that. I did nothing bad." This heated exchange between Bryce Harper and the umpire is just the latest chapter in the ongoing rivalry between the Phillies and the Mets, as both teams continue to jockey for position in the highly competitive National League East division.
