Boone lets ump know its not too late to get better, a breakdown
What Happened
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the New York Yankees trail by one run. All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge steps to the plate with a one-two count. The pitch from the opposing pitcher is called strike three by the umpire, much to Judge's frustration. Yankees manager Aaron Boone quickly emerges from the dugout to argue the call, visibly upset with the umpire's decision. Boone expresses his displeasure, telling the umpire, "It's not too late. It's not too late. You're out of here." He emphasizes that the umpire still has time to adjust his strike zone and correct the missed calls against Judge, who has faced the most borderline pitches out of the strike zone this season. Boone is animated, blowing bubbles with his chewing gum as he passionately makes his case. The Yankees' first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, steps up to the plate next, and Boone continues to argue with the umpire, saying, "It's not too fucking late. There's a whole lot of game left. There's time to get better." He is clearly frustrated with the umpire's perceived inconsistency in calling the strike zone. Boone references the "buffer zone" that umpires are often afforded, where they don't get penalized for missed calls in certain areas around the strike zone. He insists that the pitches called against Judge and Rizzo are clearly down in the zone, emphasizing, "They're fucking down. They're fucking down. It's not too late." The heated exchange continues, with Boone imploring the umpire to improve his calls, as the game remains close and there is still plenty of time left for the Yankees to mount a comeback. Boone's passion and determination to defend his players are on full display, as he tries to persuade the umpire to be more consistent and fair in his decision-making. Throughout the interaction, the Yankees' catcher, Kyle Higashioka, tries to calm the situation, assuring Boone that the umpire was not laughing at him. Boone, however, remains steadfast in his criticism, not willing to let the umpire off the hook for what he believes are poor calls that have hurt his team's chances of winning the game.

Roman. Bottom eighth, one-two count to Judge, and that pitch is called strike three. Judge doesn't
like it, but what are we doing? Booney doesn't like it. This is a big storyline for Judge and
the Yankees. Most calls out of the zone this season, most since he debuted or really came
and was an everyday player in 2017. That one's borderline, kind of at that front knee, but
yeah, they're sick of these calls going against Judge, and Booney's going to let them know,
and he says, he's laughing at your ass. He's laughing. They're laughing at you. That's how
bad you are. Takes his gum out, decides on it, puts it back in. He's going to keep chewing that.
Next pitch is to Rizzo, and same thing. Says, just keep calling it. Hey, let's just continue this.
Yeah, that's fun. He's like, he was laughing at me? Vasquez was laughing at me? What?
Boone blows a bubble, and then, oh, wow. Sexy as all. Get out. Practice swing like a man. No
gloves. Mustache. Oh, a little foot wiggle. Back leg wiggle. Lots of wiggling. Grounding himself.
Getting set. Getting set. Comes to stiff. Still. Throw it in there, kid. Let me hit it. That's low.
Call to strike. Carp's like, nuh-uh. Nuh-uh. No way. It's not too late. It's not too late.
You're out of here.
It's not too late. So he's telling him it's not too late to make the adjustment, change his zone,
start calling those strikes. The game is still going. It's not too late. It's not too late.
They're strikes. Just because you keep calling them, they're fucking balls. Rizzo's is a ball.
The low pitch on Judge is a ball. This is a fucking ball. He's laughing at your fucking ass.
Really throwing Vasquez under the bus.
Who's standing right there like, hey, be cool, Boonie. Be cool. He didn't know I was laughing
at him. OK? It's not too late. Really letting him know. It's not too fucking late. Come on,
Boonie. Come on, nothing. It's not too fucking late. There's a whole lot of game left. There's
time to get better. Come on. The balls are down. I don't give two fucks about the fucking buffer
zone. What's the buffer zone, you ask? Well, the MLB.
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't
umpires have a two inch buffer zone on either sides of the plate up and down where they don't
get penalized for getting calls wrong in those areas umpire says all right now let's go okay
