Alonso yells at pitcher for yelling at him, a breakdown
What Happened
In the bottom of the first inning, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso steps to the plate with a runner on and two outs. Alonso takes his familiar check-swing routine, ready to square up against Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman. The first pitch from Stroman is a high 93 mph fastball that misses the strike zone. Alonso, known for his powerful bat, clearly doesn't want anything outside of the strike zone. The next pitch is inside, again not where Alonso likes to see the ball. Alonso remains patient, working the count to 3-0. On the 3-0 pitch, Alonso unloads, crushing a fastball down the line. As he begins rounding the bases, thinking he's hit a home run, the umpire signals that the ball was foul. Alonso, frustrated, argues with the umpire, spiking his bat and equipment in frustration. Stroman, unhappy with Alonso's outburst, begins yelling at him from the mound. "Pete, knock it off," Stroman says. Alonso fires back, telling Stroman, "That was a f***ing foul ball. I should have had a home run." The two players, who share the same agent, have a history and know each other well. Stroman tells the umpire he doesn't want Alonso throwing his equipment around, as it looks unprofessional. Alonso, on the other hand, explains to the umpire that he was upset because he felt he had crushed a home run. The at-bat continues, with Alonso fouling off the next pitch. Clearly frustrated, he spikes his bat again, prompting more yelling from Stroman. Alonso stands his ground, engaging in a heated back-and-forth with the Cubs pitcher before eventually returning to the batter's box. looks at the Umpire and says no it's a

here we go the pitch 3-0 maybe he
thought Pete wasn't gonna swing because
the first inning and Pete was like I'm
swinging man and that's gone and I will
round the bases and then the Umpire as
you saw had to say Pete come on come on
now that was foul ball other side of the
pole so now he's got to get back in the
box and he's pretty upset that was his
pitch to hit and he missed it should hit
a home run he wants the 3-1 now do it
again put it right there 3-1 another
fastball ah but he spikes it so Pete
spikes his Bat he's not happy tosses the
bat tosses his wrist pad off with the
elbow pad now the pitcher he doesn't
like seeing that him throwing the stuff
all over he says [ __ ] Pete Pete knock it
off
you don't gotta do that Pete sees him
yelling at him so he throws his pad and
he looks at him and he says hey man I
just took your [ __ ] way up top [ __ ]
pitch
that was foul it's a [ __ ] foul ball
what and Pete says [ __ ] pitch now a
lot of people saw this and thought Pete
was saying [ __ ] pitch to me throw me
a pitch but I think he's saying you
worry about pitching don't worry about
what I'm doing and the Pitcher he said
they share the same agent they know each
other he just doesn't like seeing guys
throw their equipment and and it looks
bad and he tells the um I just don't
want him doing that [ __ ] that's what he
tells the UMP and Pete tells the other
um that should have been a home run I
love that I love that he's telling the
UMP why he was upset and Pete's just
like that should have been a home run I
don't know what happened I don't know
why I did it should have been a home run
but what happened was he swung too early
it was just a little too early and that
ruined the whole experience for him and
