What Happened

In a crucial AL East matchup, the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays square off. In the top of the third inning, Boston shortstop Xander Bogaerts steps up and drives in the game's first run, scoring Mookie Betts to put the Red Sox up 1-0. Betts then doubles to extend the lead to 2-0 in the same inning. However, the Blue Jays respond in the bottom of the fourth, as young slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. crushes his first career home run in front of the home crowd, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The crowd erupts in celebration as Guerrero high-fives his girlfriend in the stands. Later, the Red Sox's Rafael Devers homers in the top of the eighth to make it a 3-1 game. In the bottom of the ninth, the Blue Jays mount a comeback, tying the game at 3-3 and sending it to extra innings. Mookie Betts then puts the Red Sox back on top with a go-ahead run in the top of the 12th, but the Boston bullpen is unable to hold the lead and the Blue Jays ultimately win the wild back-and-forth affair. Shifting to the Bronx, the New York Yankees host the Baltimore Orioles. Trey Mancini leads off the game with a solo home run for the Orioles. However, the Yankees quickly respond, as DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres both launch home runs to give New York a 3-1 advantage. Gary Sanchez then crushes a mammoth shot to extend the Yankees' lead. Despite the early onslaught, the Orioles fight back, with Renato Núñez hitting a two-run homer to make it a 7-5 game. But Aroldis Chapman shuts the door for the Yankees, securing the victory with his 101 mph fastball. In the final game, the Tampa Bay Rays host the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rays starter Rich Hill delivers a strong outing, but the only blemish is a solo home run by Tommy Pham. The Rays' defense also shines, with Kevin Kiermaier throwing out a Dodgers baserunner at the plate to keep the game tied. In the bottom of the seventh, the Rays offense erupts for seven runs, highlighted by a three-run homer from Avisaíl García and another three-run shot from Kiermaier. The Rays' coaching staff celebrates the big inning with a series of push-ups, as the team extends its lead over the Yankees in the AL East standings.
