Tigers Pitcher throws up on the mound, a breakdown
What Happened
The Detroit Tigers are hosting the Chicago White Sox, with the visiting team holding a big lead. Rookie pitcher Bo Burrows takes the mound for the Tigers, making his second career MLB appearance in front of a crowd. As Burrows begins his second inning of work, it's clear he is struggling with nerves and physical discomfort. Burrows starts by walking the leadoff batter, then gives up a line drive single that scores a run. However, the run is taken off the board due to fan interference. Chicago's Tim Anderson then delivers an RBI single to make it 2-0 White Sox. Burrows continues to labor, walking the next batter on a full count. Tigers pitching coach Chris Fetter comes to the mound to check on Burrows, who insists he feels fine and doesn't think he'll throw up. However, Burrows' breathing becomes increasingly labored, and it's evident he is battling nausea. He manages to strike out the next batter, but the struggle is clear on his face. As Burrows faces the next hitter, José Abreu, his condition rapidly deteriorates. "I can't do it," he says, before violently vomiting on the mound. The crowd reacts with a mix of shock and disgust, while Burrows' teammates and coaches look on with concern. One fan in the stands can be seen nonchalantly eating nachos, seemingly unfazed by the scene unfolding. Burrows tries to compose himself and get one more out, but the nausea overwhelms him again. The umpire and Tigers manager come to the mound, and Burrows is mercifully removed from the game. He explains to the manager that he was feeling sick, and the team subsequently sends him back down to Triple-A after the game. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the young pitcher's perseverance in the face of adversity earns him the respect of his teammates and the Detroit faithful. As Burrows looks to bounce back from this difficult MLB debut, the Tigers and their fans remain hopeful that he will get another opportunity to showcase his talents on the big league stage.
