Kings & Royals match comes down to the last over, a breakdown
What Happened
In a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Titans, the game comes down to the final over with the Royals needing 8 runs to win. Shimron Hetmyer, the young batsman from Guyana, strides to the crease, having already scored 24 runs off just 12 deliveries. The Titans have set a target of 190 runs, and the Royals have 4 wickets in hand as they approach the last over. Hetmyer's partner has only faced one delivery, so the pressure is on the Guyanese all-rounder to deliver. The captain of the Titans shifts his fielders, placing 4 players on the boundary to prevent Hetmyer from finding the boundary. The first delivery is a wide, awarding the Royals an extra run and resetting the over. Hetmyer recognizes the Titans' defensive strategy and calmly lofts the next ball over the infield for a massive six, leaving the Royals needing just 1 run to win. The Titans captain quickly brings his fielders in, hoping to prevent Hetmyer from scoring the winning run. Undeterred, Hetmyer coolly guides the ball past the lone fielder on the off-side, securing the victory for the Rajasthan Royals with a single run. "He's laughing because it got scary," the commentator notes, as Hetmyer celebrates with his teammates. The young batsman from Guyana has proven his composure under immense pressure, delivering a match-winning performance for the Royals. The IPL is known for its dramatic finishes, and this clash between the Royals and the Titans is no exception. Hetmyer's heroics have not only sealed the victory for his team but also cemented his reputation as one of the rising stars in the league.

and the royals came down to the last
over what's an over you ask well it's a
collection of six
balls and balls are pitches so
you get 20 overs
so 20 sets of six pitches and a pitcher
they rotate the pitcher it's kind of
like an at-bat from the baseball
perspective where
this this bowler pitcher is going to
come in and gets to throw six pitches
balls and then the next one comes in and
then the next one and they can rotate as
they see fit depending on who's batting
lefty righty are they better versus spin
are they better versus speed it's kind
of like an at-bat in a baseball sense
from the
pitcher's point of view or the pitcher
side of things so there's six balls left
they need eight runs to win our dude
hetmire's up he's from guyana he's
already scored 24 runs off of 12 pitches
so he's averaging two a pitch so he
should be able to get this his teammate
his partner has only seen one ball and
uh he didn't get a run off that let's
see the other team got 189 runs when
they hit so now they need 190 and
they're at
182. they've only gotten out four times
doesn't really matter at this point here
we go so it's a it's a strategy game
there's a lot of shifting because you
shift your defense and then you bowl the
guy based on how you're shifting the
defense so right now they don't want to
give up the automatic four which he gets
an automatic four runs if he hits the
boundary so they're gonna move all their
players
and in the front of him
out to the outfield you can see that
he's that's the captain and now he's
gonna run out to the outfield
so they got four in the outfield they
got three over here we would call that
oppo just kind of like slice it down the
third base or foul and then they got one
behind him to guard to guard that and
you can see him go okay guess i'll just
hit it that way because i get it by that
one guy i get automatic four runs
so here's how they bowl them behind the
leg unfortunately it's too far behind
the leg and the ref says that's wide so
that's kind of what we would call a ball
an unhittable pitch and in this it does
not count towards the over so he's still
going to have to throw six balls but now
he only needs seven runs so if you throw
it wide
basically like unhittable
it's an automatic run for the batting
team and you have to redo the pitch and
you can see he was trying to hit it that
way
they were trying to bait him because
that's the way they didn't want him to
hit it and he wanted to hit it so it's
wide so now
the over still hasn't really started
they still have to throw six more balls
and he needs seven runs
to win the game here's another replay
bounces spins leg side he misses it but
it was behind him so it's wide next ball
that is a slow spinning
kind of like a
looping curveball he absolutely bombs it
for the automatic six runs like a home
run now he only needs one run to win the
game so you can see they take their
fielders and they bring them all in
because if he hits it in the air
they'd have to catch it be perfect to
get him out otherwise
he wins the game basically if he hits it
on the ground they need to stop it
so they can't run so they bring the
infield in he takes note of that and you
can see him kind of looking around go oh
only one guy over there still
okay all right
yeah this dude hetmire
has the uh he's the youngest batsman to
score 100 runs which is called a century
so now he's gonna try and hit it past
that guy just dink and write to him but
you can see the strategy he gets it
right past that guy
it's a run so he's laughing he's like
all right you got me that time okay
guess i'll just have to power it through
the guys on the other side of the field
bam and right at a guy so again they
hold them they don't run now it's like
oh
oh three balls left one run like
can they do that three more times bowler
looking intense smoldering look staring
at him and he's gonna shift his feet up
and attack that before it bounces it
goes the full length and he kind of
that'd be like just like a bloop over
second base just like dumps it in there
and they win and that's it and
everyone's happy
people like pink it's mother's day
weekend he's laughing because it got
scary he's a fun guy he's from guyana
which is
not part of the caribbean but they
consider themselves part of the
caribbean here's the last three
balls thrown and you can see the first
two
he definitely slowed down the pace
and then the last one was the full
length so i don't know if that was on
purpose or just a mishit but watch the
batsman's feet the two on the left the
first two he stays
his back foot stays pretty planted right
and he's waiting for the bounce to get
to him on this last one
look how much he on all the way on the
right look how much he shifts up to
attack this ball so that's what i like
it's like game of adjustments game of
strategy and then there's a lot of close
finishes
