One Left Fielder robs a homer, the other takes a ball off the head, a breakdown
What Happened
In a key late-season matchup between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, the game features two memorable plays by the left fielders on each side. In the bottom of the inning, the Yankees are trailing by one run as Aaron Judge steps to the plate for a crucial at-bat. On the mound for the Orioles is their starting pitcher. Judge swings and hits a deep fly ball to left field. The Orioles' left fielder, Austin Hays, takes off at full speed, tracking the ball. As it reaches the wall, Hays leaps up and makes a spectacular catch, robbing Judge of a game-tying home run. "That's a game-saving play by Hays," exclaims the announcer. On the other side, the Orioles' left fielder, DJ Stewart, is chasing down a fly ball when he completely misses the catch and the ball ricochets off the top of his head. "Oh, that fucking hurt," Stewart says, laying on the ground. His teammate comes over and laughs at the mishap. "It's so misplayed. It's bizarre. I mean, good effort, but actually not," the announcer remarks. Stewart gets up, his eyes wide and says, "Did you guys see? I was laying there. It hit me right in the head." The announcer responds, "Yeah, man, we saw. We saw it happen. It hit you right in the head." Despite the comedic nature of the play, the announcer notes that Stewart is likely not concussed, though he now has a sizeable welt on his head. The contrast between the two left fielders' plays highlights the range of emotions and unexpected moments that can occur in a close baseball game. While Hays' catch helps the Orioles preserve their lead, Stewart's blunder provides a lighthearted moment. The announcer concludes by praising both plays for their entertainment value, before plugging a local burger joint in Montclair, New Jersey.

the dome. That fucking hurt. Yeah, it didn't feel good. Probably didn't look good
either. Yeah. Oh, shit. Oh, yeah, it's right around there. His teammate comes in laughing
at him. One of the earliest slides just on the ground, just laying, laying,
chilling out, and then bam, clocks right in the head. It's so misplayed. It's bizarre.
I mean, good effort, but actually not. Oh, wide eyes. Yeah, did you guys see
it hit me right there? Oh, we saw, Stewart. We saw, everyone saw, you were
laying on the ground defenseless and it hit. Yeah, man, I was fucking slipped and
I was laying on the ground. Ball came and ow, ow. Yeah.
Did you guys see? I was laying there. It hit me right in the head.
Like, oh, yep. Yeah, man, we saw. We saw it happen. It hit you right
in the head. Now he gets a little laugh. Says, I'm good to go. All
right, cool. Cool. Yeah, definitely not concussed or anything. That didn't, that wouldn't happen from
that. Can he get the hat on over that welt? He's got a head on
his head now. Damn. Bummer. And then, yes, now we're just going to do them
dirty and just be like, yeah, the Orioles are the worst defensive team and the
worst defensive outfield in the MLB. He's like, all right, let me check my card,
see where I'm supposed to be for this batter. Not sure that's going to matter,
my dude. And then on the other end of things, you got the Yankees left
fielder, Mike Tauchman doing this. Just two ways to go about it.
Both crazy high entertainment value. I'll give them both credit. I enjoyed both plays
the same, if I'm being honest. If you're ever going to Montclair, New Jersey, go
