What Happened

In the bottom of the first inning of Game 3 of the National League Division Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers explode for a record-setting offensive performance against the Atlanta Braves. Mookie Betts leads off the inning by hitting a single down the third base line and the Dodgers' dugout erupts in celebration as the play is overturned on review, giving Betts a hit. The very next pitch, Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner smashes a line drive to left field, allowing Betts to score and putting the Dodgers on the board. Braves starter Kyle Wright then struggles to find the strike zone, walking the next two batters and allowing another run to score on a Will Smith single. With the Dodgers already up 2-0 and the bases loaded, Cody Bellinger steps to the plate and rips a base hit to right field, driving in two more runs. The Braves turn to the bullpen, but the bleeding continues as Max Muncy works a walk to reload the bases. Rookie outfielder James Outman then crushes a grand slam over the left field wall, making the score 7-0 Dodgers. "I can't put another pitch in the strike zone," a frustrated Wright says after the inning. "We can't have three pitches, two runs." The Dodgers are not done, however. Justin Turner reaches on a wild pitch that allows another run to score and the umpires review the play, determining that Turner intentionally kicked the ball, but are unable to overturn the original call. Muncy then caps the historic inning with a towering grand slam, his second home run of the frame, to make it an 11-0 Dodgers lead. "If Muncie doesn't hit a grand slam here, I will eat a packet of bugs," says on his live stream, a promise he is forced to keep as Muncy clears the bases. The Dodgers' three home runs and 11 runs scored in the first inning set new MLB postseason records, leaving the Braves shell-shocked and the Dodgers firmly in control of the game. As the teams head to the second inning, the Dodgers' offense has already made its mark on this pivotal playoff matchup.
