Stuck at home for the weekend, the creator decided to make homemade peanut butter cups from scratch. The process started with melting semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe container, though they weren’t entirely sure it was microwave-safe. After a half-successful attempt at coating mini cupcake liners with chocolate, they froze the base layer for 15 minutes. For the filling, they used super chunky peanut butter mixed with butter and sugar to make it smoother and a bit sweeter. They scooped the mix into the now-frozen chocolate cups, tapping them to try and flatten the top.
After another round in the freezer, it was time to seal the cups with another layer of melted chocolate. One version had chocolate fully lining the sides, the other didn’t. After a final 15-minute freeze, the peanut butter cups were ready. The fully encased version held together better, but both types tasted good. The cups looked messy but turned out well enough to impress their maker, who called them the easiest treat they’ve ever made. They still had a few left in the freezer for later.
