Aspen Wesley put together a nasty sequence on the mound. Her first pitch looked like a rising off-speed pitch, working up in the zone for a strike. The hitter fouled back the next one, which stayed low. Then Wesley finished things off with a sharp changeup that dropped hard out of the zone. Same arm speed, almost identical release, but completely different movement. One pitch climbs, the other dives, and the batter is left swinging at air. The overlay of the pitches shows how tough it is to pick them up. Both come in looking the same, but move in opposite directions. Wesley didn’t overpower the hitter. She outsmarted her.
