The balls were slippery (NFL Week 1 Recap), a breakdown

Week 1 in the NFL was full of chaos, bad snaps, weird plays, and slippery footballs. The Browns beat the Bengals in a game highlighted by a hilariously bad interception that got tipped just enough to make it less embarrassing for Joe Burrow. Cleveland fans celebrated with awkward high fives and stiff-arm fist bumps that almost didn’t happen. In Denver, the Broncos tried an opening onside kick against the Raiders, which backfired after an illegal touch. Vegas took advantage and closed out a win with a soft high five.

The Cardinals and Commanders both had trouble holding onto the ball. There was one pass that slipped through two players’ hands completely untouched. Another throw landed right in the dirt. One fumbled play led to a touchdown the other way, while another blew up a trick play and took out the chain crew operator in the process. Somewhere in the mix, a Cardinals defender managed to get a little attention from a cheerleader despite the chaos on the field.

The Giants had the worst week of all. Bad snaps, blocked kicks, and constant fumbles turned their matchup against the Cowboys into a disaster. Every time something looked promising, the ball hit the turf or popped out and landed in a Dallas defender’s hands. The Cowboys didn’t miss a chance to pounce, turning turnovers into instant points. Even Mac Jones tried to get things going for the Patriots, slipping into the end zone for a two-point try and swinging high fives everywhere, but that play got called back too. Week 1 was a mess for a lot of teams, and some of the fans looked just as confused as the players.
