SA20 Cricket fan takes ball to the eye attempting to take the catch, a breakdown
What Happened
In a highly anticipated SA20 cricket match, the title sponsor is offering a massive two million rand prize to any fan who can cleanly catch a six (home run) with their bare hands. The electric atmosphere is palpable as fans eagerly await their chance at the life-changing windfall. The first attempt shows two friends fumbling the catch, playing "hot potato" with the ball before ultimately dropping it. While comical, it demonstrates the difficulty of the challenge. Next, a fan takes a direct hit to the eye, resulting in a bloody injury - a stark reminder of the danger inherent in this "blood sport" of catching balls. Undeterred, a fan in the wheelchair section positions himself perfectly, only to have the ball slip through his grasp, much to the amusement of those around him. However, the highlight of the compilation comes when a daring fan, standing on the railing, reaches out with one hand to snag the ball, swinging himself across the net in a spider-man-esque display of athleticism. The crowd erupts in cheers, and his elated friends celebrate his fearless attempt. The most heartbreaking moment comes when a fan is positioned perfectly to catch the game-winning six, only to see the ball slip through his fingers. The agony on his face is palpable as he watches the opportunity of a lifetime slip away, with the surrounding fans mercilessly ribbing him. Despite the many misses, there are a few successful catches, each celebrated with exuberance. The first successful catch of the entire competition is met with a hero's welcome, as the fan is interviewed, hugged, and fawned over by the adoring crowd. Another fan, after making a one-handed grab, proudly proclaims, "I jumped up, I grabbed it, yes I did!" The sheer joy and camaraderie among the fans is palpable. As the summary concludes, the diverse range of fan reactions, from hilarious failures to triumphant successes, have provided an unforgettable and entertaining spectacle for all in attendance at this thrilling SA20 cricket match.

Click timestamps to jump to that momentThe title sponsor of the SA20 is giving away two million rand to all the fans who take a clean
barehanded catch of a six. A six in baseball speak is a home run ball. This is brought to
you by DraftKings. Thank you to DraftKings. And it's part two where we're going to look at my
favorite, my favorite of all the attempts and all the catches. Here we go. This is a fun attempt
where two friends bobble it twice. Now it has to be clean. So once you bobble it, it's done.
Still funny because fans are going all out. And these dudes play hot potato. Stripes has it.
Gray says, no, it's mine. Back to stripes. And then no one's got it. And that's on the ground.
And they're just like, oh man, well, we tried. I wonder if they know each other.
Maybe they don't even know each other. Now this next one's got blood involved. So if you don't
like that, don't watch. This dude takes the ball right in the eye. Dangerous. There does seem to
be danger.
In this blood sport of catching balls, his buddy gives him a hug. Now here you're going to see the
replay. The ball goes off a dude's finger in front of him and then into his eye. Boom. Now he does
have glasses on. And I think that might've led to the cut and maybe helped his eye socket not get
absolutely popped because it hits him right in the eye. Maybe the glasses help out. They do leave
him.
Bloody. Like he's walking out of here and he's got blood mascara dripping down his face,
looking like he's at some Swedish rock concert. He's gone. Now we've got a dude who's in the
wheelchair section. So he's front row and he doesn't have a crowd around him. Like prime
location. Oh, the ball catches him. He gets there. He's in position, hits the hands,
hits his like shoulders, head, and he goes down. And I like this one a lot because he gets a pretty
good line. He gets a pretty good line. He gets a pretty good line. He gets a pretty good line.
And those around him have a pretty good laugh. Like, ah, that was it. You know, he doesn't have
to deal with the crowds. He's got it. And he's like, okay, show it again. Show everyone again.
Yep. Uh, yeah. Like I said, in part one, getting there seems to be easy. Once that ball hits your
hand, squeezing it seems to be the real tough part. Now, the next one that I'm going to show you
is the one that made me start doing all this research, which,
contained watching 30 of these games and finding all of these examples, because this I saw, and it
was like, that's insane. He's Spider-Man's down, grabs the ball, throws it back. Well, look at this.
He's standing on the railing. His left hand is holding a net to block the ball from hitting them
in the face, I guess. So he must've known like, Hey, this is going to be my plan. And then reaches
out for it. I think it might hit his hand, but then his momentum swings them. So he's Spider-Man's
across.
He's holding onto the net and is able to land safely. Wild. If he caught it, I think everyone
else that catches has to defer their share of the money. And it just goes to him. That would
have been insane. Now in baseball stadiums, if you do this, you're kicked out. I think
you can't go on the field and that's pretty dangerous, but it seems like he stayed and just
had a good time. This may be my favorite. There's a bunch of good ones, but yeah,
just the Spider-Man staying up is wild. They show it on the big screen. A bunch. He's like, ah, damn,
his buddies are laughing at him. That guy loves it. Look at him clapping. Good job. Good job. Good job.
Give me a high five. Thank you. Made his day. He got a high five from Spider-Man beer shirt behind
him. They're watching the replay and like, oh man, look how much his buddy loves it over here.
I guess that's as much as I love it. I'm doing the same things like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I
almost fell in the field.
Now, this is absolutely my favorite of all the misses because it comes on the game winning six.
This ended the match. Imagine if you catch the ball, the in baseball speak, the walk off Homer
and you get money for doing so. And it comes to this gentleman. He's right there. It hits his hand.
Oh, it would have been a two handed catch anyway. I don't think he realizes that, but look at the
heartbreak and the kids around him going, oh, and then watch this. He just gets so broken up about
it. He's like, oh, I'm going to go to the ball. I'm going to go to the ball. I'm going to go to the
ball. He slinks. Oh, oh no. Oh, what happened? And everyone around him is not letting him live it
down. He's like, it was in my hand. He's like, oh, oh, oh, oh, it was there. He just had to make a
stop. Oh, oh yeah. I love the watching that dude. Now these are some of the catches. This was a
real nice catch. Didn't count. There's a mini celebration. And then I think he realizes it does
not count.
Might be the only person I saw catch one, but it doesn't count because it wasn't a clean catch.
You know, that's not in his palm. He's got it between his elbow. You know, in sports world,
I think that counts as a catch, but it ain't clean. Now let's take a look at all the catches
from the regular season. Ready? Here we go. This one, they don't have great footage of because he's
kind of like behind the pack, but he comes away with the ball in his hand. The players get a kick
out of it. I like that. It was a big event whenever this happened. And, you know, I don't
know. Celebrating like crazy. They're going to show some replays. It's hard to see, but I love
the fellow fans. When they drop them, you're upset with them. When they catch them, everyone's happy.
He's like behind the pack and somehow grabs that. I wish we had better shot of it, but we don't.
So I did it first because they get better and better as we go. This one was a real nice catch
in the crowd, grabs it, comes down with it, takes the hat off. What do you guys think?
He's in the crowd of people.
Jumps up in the hand and sticks it. And this woman is very excited about it. So is the dude
in the construction hat. Yeah. It's like they all win when it happens. That dude right next to him
gets absolutely bodied and like thrown to the ground. I don't know. That wasn't him that did
that. I don't know what happened there, but the celebration afterwards, look at this. Everyone
wants to take pictures. He said he was going to use it to give some money to his mom to help
buy her a car.
Something like that. I forget. His girlfriend comes up. See that hand? See the sneaky hand?
You know, everyone's in love with him. You know, the women are flocking. His girl comes up,
wraps her hand and says, he's mine. The one that caught the ball is mine. Maybe that's mom
and girlfriend or wife right there. And he's a hero. Puts the hat back on. He's going to get
interviewed. Shakes hands. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Yes. Yes. I jumped up. I grabbed it.
Yes, I did. Look at this. Look at the hugs.
He's getting a hero. This was the first ball caught in the whole competition. Goes into the
crowd and purple shirt has it. Look at the celebration there. Hard to tell. I think he's
just taller than everyone. But again, you still got to stick it once it comes your way. So he was
the first person. So he was voting for no one else to catch a single ball. He wanted all the money
to himself. Turns out more people caught balls. That's a lot of face this guy's got going on.
I mean, that doesn't feel fun. Why is he doing that?
Is that a South African thing? It's like an Italian thing or a little kid thing. Like
he's got his whole face. All right. So I've touched my face. It is funny. They have to
throw it back. And in American baseball, that is just so opposite. One handed catch here.
This was a real nice play. He's solo. So he doesn't have a crowd. But again,
sticks the catch in his hand. Celebration loves it. He was the second one in this match to catch
it. So they're pumped up. The first person in this match to catch it.
One was this dude. And this is one of my favorites of all the catches. Probably top two
because he's holding a beer in one hand. Doesn't move at all. It comes right to him. Barely even
stands up. You got to watch the replays here. Now, this guy got interviewed. He said he played
cricket his whole life. So he knew what was going on. But he didn't spill his beer. Barely even
panicked. Didn't move. Has his jacket. And he's going to catch it this way and then spins his
hand to the underhand and says.
Hey, he's got it. I mean, just went into like a squat. That's all. Beer hand stayed steady.
Didn't panic. Came right to him, though. Didn't have to move at all. But good spot. Look at that.
They get his ID. They say, OK, you're a winner. Good job. Come back later. The players get a kick
out of it. I like that. I like that the players get a kick out of they watch the replay. And then
he like salutes back to the players who are saluting him on the field. Watches his
replay.
Feels great. He says, I was going to catch it like this. And then I was like, I don't know what
happened. Actually, I don't know. This is my favorite catch of the regular season because
it's in traffic. There's a lot of people around him. But mostly I love it because of the party
that ensues. Beer's getting thrown. He's celebrating. Everybody wants to touch him on the
head. I mean, there's three different people that just rubbed his head while he's celebrating. He's
looking at the ball. Arms haven't even come down yet. Not going to let his arms come down. I mean,
that was exciting.
He had one come his way earlier in the match that he missed. That one come. He's telling everyone
he's going to replay this for everyone his whole life. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then the next
one comes and I get it. Yeah, it was awesome. Look at that. Just hand to God. Boom. All mine
right to him. Guy behind him at a beer spilled a little. Just king. King of the crowd. Two beers
simultaneously spill to the left and right. It's kind of a cool shot. Beer on the left.
Beer on the right. Ball in the middle. He already drank all his beers. Didn't need anymore. Look at
that. Hand to the head. Hand to the head. Hand to the head. A hero. A known hero. He gets phones in
his face right away. Can you tell us about what happened? Well, I stuck my hand up. I caught the
ball. What are you going to do with the money? I don't know. Whatever I want. So there you have it.
That's my favorite of all the misses and all the catches. And if you didn't watch part one,
there's a bunch of other funny stuff of people trying to catch these and missing.
Or catching them. Thank you very much to DraftKings for sponsoring this breakdown.
And thank you to you guys for watching and enjoying. Appreciate you.
