Blitzball meets Cricket! | Ball In Play League

ball or the ball in play league now the

fundamental things you need to know is

that two hitters hit at the same time

only one hits at the same time but

they're Partners they score runs by

running to the other side

of the floor they can also get automatic

runs these are called Boundaries if the

ball hits the back wall That's

automatically four runs if the ball hits

the back wall above the Home Run shelf

that's automatically six runs they also

get a run every time the pitcher throws

a bad ball what we would consider in

baseball a ball okay how does the

Fielding team get outs well if the

pitcher throws the ball and it goes

right into the little circle in the

middle of the strike zone the batter's

out even if it's the first pitch even if

he tips it the batter is out if the

batter hits the ball and it's caught

before it hits the ground the batter is

out and if the batter and the runners

try to run and the Fielding team gets

the ball and hits the Wicket or the

strike zone before they reach their

crease they are out batters hit until

they are out so they can score a ton of

runs tuning games in each inning is 18

good pitches so there's a cap to how

many pitches you can score off of we

have Darren Sammy in the booth with

Chris Rose he is a legendary West Indies

cricket player listen to what the booth

is saying look at the scoreboard to see

the individual batter scores to see how

many pitches the pitcher has thrown how

many outs how many runs all the

information is there you guys are smart

enough you'll figure it out don't be

confused on purpose this is fun it's

awesome

we are in Jersey City New Jersey for the

first ever ball and play tournament I am

Chris Rose and welcome to the first ever

combination of Blitzball and cricket and

you're probably saying to yourself Rose

you you know about Blitzball you have no

idea about cricket and that's why I

picked up this guy in my Uber drive on

the way over he is the legendary cricket

ball player of course from the West

Indies the one and only Darren Sammy

Darren it is great to have you along for

the ride for people that have never seen

Cricket before what are they expected to

see here tonight well Cricket is the

most entertaining game for us in the

Caribbean and all over India so to have

it right here in Jersey man I'm just

happy to be here I expect to see lots of

excitements boundaries six and fours

good catching good feeling and a lot of

action out there so I can't wait yeah

that's the biggest difference I suppose

between the baseball slash Blitzball

world and the cricket world is that

you're gonna see guys running at times

where in baseball you'd be like you

cannot run right now you're gonna get

doubled up that never happens in this

sport so you're gonna see a lot of

Strikers which are the guys that have

the bat they're going to be swinging at

everything there's really no penalty to

swinging the bat at all and there's just

going to be a lot of movement back and

forth absolutely and you better not

leave your butt when you're running

you've got to run with your butt as well

you run with your bat we'll explain the

reason why okay so don't worry we're all

going to kind of learn this together if

you have never seen Cricket it's not

that big a deal I got one of the most

legendary players ever to help walk us

through this so we are learning together

let's take you down to the cement for

our first game

swing big and take risks but as soon as

we get one out then it's a little bit

more conservative until the last one we

want two remaining for that pesto yeah

all right we are just about ready as we

well let's remember Jake was the

Blitzball tournament MVP so he certainly

knows how to swing the stick and by the

way you'll notice that we're using a

Blitzball bat this is not a cricket

paddle I like his temperament he's

making the pitcher weight

until he is ready so two boundaries in a

row

is this commonplace in the Cricket World

to see three straight boundaries yes

I've seen six in a row you've seen six

six in the row so so far he's faced

three balls he's hit three boundaries

Jack is on fire and score moves on to

13.

actually a

bet because it did not hit the strike

zone it's one run it's one run it's a

bad pitch one one added to the score and

he has to rebold that delivery so that

does not even count as a pitch so that

was even though he swung and missed it's

still beneficial you gotta keep it in

the strike zone

or else you'll be punished

all right

there's another bad ball and another run

and a no pitch if you will if you're

scoring so still two more balls to bowl

in this over did I say that right that

is absolutely correct and I'm learning

to the single

Scott moves on to 15 after five legal

pitches so this is the last ball that

will be pitched in this over

oh there's nothing that's a DOT ball and

so that is the last one of the over yes

so that is it for the over now you'll

notice something new is happening you

have to change pictures with every over

Jake that was an excellent offensive

know all week I was kind of like we're

I'm gonna have a day any strategy going

about the only chance they got because

after that that brought Jake on strike

and he's been on fire so you'll notice

that the same batters are batting we

still have Ray is the runner and Jake as

the hitter and that's because neither of

them have gotten out once they get out

they will be replaced no pressure

my goodness I'd love to see this again

incredible play I felt really good I'm

starting to feel my hamstring I think I

got a little bit there but I felt really

draft Luke O'Brien

and getting the dangerous check out

unbelievable I mean that diving play

like that is unreal how often do we see

that in cricket oh man this would be a

catch of the Season wow look at that

sliding in perhaps tearing a hamstring

but that's okay because he's got two of

them

and he's young so he'll be just fine and

most importantly he got the dangerous

check out yeah he did he did he can no

longer hit he has been replaced by a new

batter uh it is Jimmy O'Brien he's new

to the company

oh they're brothers too I'm being told

so this is very interesting when they

used to play cricket or cricket ball in

the back yard

this is the match-up they used to have

we may proceed weirdos

now that's a DOT ball that's a duck ball

okay two contrasting overs

so far two dots and a wicket

up now that's a run

that's a run because it's a bad ball and

it does not count as one of the pitches

in the sixth pitch over

so this will be the third pitch if it's

a good pitch

that counts as a DOT ball and that is

called dog balls are golden so far honey

that's a bad ball but just barely so

it's another run and does not count as

an official pitch

so what's a good amount of runs for an

over is 16 good 16 was excellent

excellent okay here we go Luke's still

testing out that hamstring

uh nobody's running on that play

and it seems like Lucas really shaking

out that hamstring he might have really

hurt himself on that dive but it was

worth it that's a bad ball that's a run

tough go for Rohan had to go under him

and foremost I did something to it not

the time I'm running over there it's

Jimmy got off me I felt like I would

Ray was ducking and the ball curves back

into the center space and that is an out

what a perfect pitch that is the perfect

pitch Chris nothing better than this you

could see he put some

pain on it and it was just dipping

unbelievable performance and so now Ray

takes a seat as he has been officially

Zach the legendary Zach is at the plate

it's not enough especially when you got

wow it's really crowding the strike zone

Splat Elite did not face four deliveries

had the batter who ran but the runner

obviously make it easier to hit you can

only use that for one inning what are we

it's more like a cricket paddle except

more surface areas yeah talking about

really being it so I expect some more

in the first game

of the crits ball wow an impressive

performance by Splat Elite we had an

outstanding game through an inning and

then once we move to the bigger bats

there and that seemed to really provide

the energy for Splat Elite absolutely

you saw

Brothers

or the business partners jimin

and Jake just taking the attack to happy

be to be here yep they certainly did and

uh Paxton is standing by right now with

the winning team

yes I got Splat Elite here guys great

Victory how are you feeling after the

first win of the first ever ball and

play league I feel good I don't think

the final score shows at one point it

was it was a little scary we had I

believe two outs and it was a close game

and I I found the David Eckstein swing

and and that helped us get a little

cushioned after absolutely so Zach you

know we're kind of speaking earlier

about how we had a slow start with you

guys and and you guys just ramped up and

really took home that Victory do you

still believe that your slow start maybe

gave that momentum

I still think we started great

um that's not to uh

I don't know

um but no the Jimmy said we had that uh

spot there when we had two outs and then

these two guys really found it and they

put a lot of padding on that lead that

we had and that was huge yeah absolutely

and I just want to reference the fact

that it was actually Jake who said that

you guys had a slow start so I just want

to put that back out there ask the

captain are you proud of your unit for

bringing home this victory yeah of

course I'm always happy with a win

so how do you know you were having some

some struggles pitching wise there for a

while how did you find your groove in

rhythm keep it simple don't try anything

I love that back to you guys up in the

booth

so Splat Elite a big winner by 20 runs

were you impressed with Jimmy's skill

set out there yeah Jimmy really took the

game away from from this guy's spotted

really well I love the way he just stood

still and hit the ball on the Blackboard

where you get the maximum runs which is

four or six so amazing game to get the

team with points on the board

so it was a fun first game for us hope
