The end of the Purdue vs. Minnesota game turned into complete chaos. With under two minutes left, Purdue, down three, looked like it converted a wild play where the defender nearly intercepted the ball, fumbled it, and the Purdue receiver recovered it. Replay showed a Minnesota player touching the loose ball while out of bounds, making it incomplete. Purdue moved the ball downfield and threw what looked like a go-ahead touchdown. But a referee threw a flag for offensive pass interference on the receiver, claiming he pushed off. The contact looked minimal, but the ref called it in real time just before the catch.
That sent Purdue’s head coach into a meltdown. He lost it on the sideline, clearly yelling at the ref with plenty of profanity. He had to pull his mask down to make sure they could hear him. Purdue still had a chance to tie but threw a pick instead. Minnesota ran out the clock to win it. The coach consoled his quarterback, blaming the refs for what he called a terrible offensive pass interference call. Then he kept following the ref, yelling as the game ended, furious all the way through the handshake.
