Georgia Tech Coach Gives Pitt Coach a rude handshake, a breakdown

Pitt closed out a win over Georgia Tech but not without some chaos at the end. With Pitt up 14 and 30 seconds left, Georgia Tech’s backup quarterback, who was just thrown into the game after an injury, tried a fake spike and launched a prayer to the end zone. The throw wasn’t close but the receiver got tangled up with a defender, and the Yellow Jackets wanted a pass interference call. They didn’t get it. The ref ruled the ball uncatchable, Georgia Tech’s coach lost it, and the headset went flying. Some quick yelling and a staredown followed, but the play stood. Pitt kneeled it out afterward to seal the win.

Then came the awkward handshake. Pitt’s coach came in strong, full arm extension, visor layered over a visor, ready for a sportsmanlike moment. Georgia Tech’s coach wasn’t into it. No eye contact, weak grip, pulled away fast. Pitt’s coach tried to hold on but got the cold shoulder. He followed up with some pointed remarks and started chasing handshakes from other sideline staff. The Georgia Tech coach later said he was just trying to get his players to the band and didn’t mean any disrespect, but it definitely looked like tension on the field. Meanwhile, Pitt’s Davis took time to connect with fans after the game, handing out daps and snapping selfies. That gave the night at least one good moment before everyone headed off the field.
