Cat on the field, a breakdown

A stray cat disrupted a late-inning moment at Coors Field when the Rockies hosted the Dodgers. With the Dodgers leading in the bottom of the eighth, the game paused as a filthy, scrappy cat appeared on the railing and dropped into the seats. It zigzagged across the dugout area, then bolted straight onto the field during David Price’s windup. Players backed off as the cat sprinted all the way to center field, stopping to look confused before darting to the warning track.

Security and staff gave chase, including a woman who picked it up while trying not to get clawed. Eventually, a man with a ponytail and gloves, clearly part of the Rockies’ animal control crew, took over and removed the cat. Right after the interruption, the Rockies notched a hit, and the crowd started calling it a rally cat. But the momentum fizzled fast. A double play killed the inning, and fans were left wondering if the cat brought more curse than luck. One guy in the stands summed it up: “I thought we had the rally cat though.” Instead, just another weird moment in a tough night for the Rockies.
