UConn softball opened its season with a standout performance from twin sisters Grace and Hope Jenkins. Grace, the catcher, stepped up with the bases loaded and crushed a grand slam in her college debut to give the Huskies the lead. The dugout erupted, and she rounded the bases smiling the whole way. Not long after, Hope added her own highlight with an RBI single after contributing with a sac fly earlier. Grace does the catching, and Hope handles the pitching, making them a rare battery of twin sisters.
Hope took the mound and battled through tough spots, including a recovery after giving up a home run. She fired up strikeouts and shared intense eye contact with Grace behind the plate. Grace threw out a runner to help end a rally, and the two stayed locked in, taking control of the game in every phase. With a one-run lead in the seventh, UConn had to dig in. After a couple of baserunners got on due to a defensive miscue, Hope and Grace closed it out with a clutch strikeout and a popup to seal the win. The sisters hugged at the end, knowing they had just pulled off a debut to remember.
