Caitlin Clark is angry because the referee won’t let the game end, a breakdown

With just 1.9 seconds left, the Sparks and Fever played out a chaotic final sequence in a tight WNBA game. The Sparks had a foul to give and tried to use it, but the refs initially missed it. Then one official finally blew the whistle, stopping play with 1.1 seconds remaining. That gave the Sparks a lifeline, as they were down one and now had a chance to extend the game. Kaitlin Clark of the Fever was furious with the call and didn’t hide her frustration.

On the ensuing possession, the Sparks fouled the Fever, who went to the line with 0.4 seconds left. The Fever missed both free throws, which should have ended it, but the Sparks called a reset timeout right after securing the rebound. Under WNBA rules, that let them inbound from half court with 0.1 seconds left. The Fever bench was visibly confused by the rule, but there was no huddle, no coaching allowed—just one last shot. The Sparks got a clean look, but it was blocked. Game over. The Fever held on and Clark walked off fired up about the result, and about letting the refs hear it.
