Yuli Gurriel hit walk offs on back to back nights, a breakdown

Yuli Gurriel came through with back-to-back walk-offs for the Astros in a wild stretch of games. In the bottom of the tenth, tied 1-1, he faced a mix of off-speed pitches and fastballs before finally getting a high heater he could drive. He launched it to left for the win. As he rounded the bases, his teammates brought out the Gatorade, but the celebration was a mess. Tony Kemp missed the dunk, and Lance McCullers was off-timing. Josh Reddick, frustrated, picked up the cooler and tossed it aside. Despite the chaos, the team piled in for hugs as Gurriel soaked it in.

The next game, Gurriel came up again in a clutch spot. With a runner moved to second after an umpire took a foul ball to the foot, Yuli worked a favorable count and crushed another ball to the outfield. Malik Smith gave chase, even got close, but couldn’t bring it in. That drove in the game-winner again. The team rushed out, Altuve watching and cheering from the dugout. This time, no failed Gatorade attack. Kemp learned his lesson and just tossed bubble gum onto the field before others followed up with a more successful Gatorade shot. The grounds crew probably wasn’t thrilled, but the Astros got another dramatic finish thanks to Gurriel.
