Yasiel Puig takes advantage of the Brewers misplay and scores the walk off run, a breakdown

The Reds pulled off a strange but exciting walk-off win against the Brewers thanks to some aggressive baserunning from Yasiel Puig. With two outs in the inning, the Brewers pitcher had a chance to end the inning multiple times but couldn’t put it away. On a 0-2 count, he left a 97 mph fastball over the middle that got hit and kept the inning alive. Puig moved to first, then quickly became a distraction. He kept threatening to steal, forcing pickoff attempts and disrupting the pitcher’s focus.

Eventually, a ball got put in play that should have only moved Puig to third. But a terrible throw from Christian Yelich and a botched flip from the catcher let Puig score from third, ending the game. Puig watched the play develop the whole time and sprinted home once he saw the error. He knew they might mess it up and was ready to take the chance. Reds players weren’t even sure who to celebrate with. Puig made the game-winning run, but José Iglesias also played a key role in the sequence. In the end, Puig made things happen and capitalized on a mistake, securing the win for Cincinnati.
