Winker gets ejected, and hits his teammate in the head with his helmet, a breakdown.

Jesse Winker got tossed in the top of the ninth during a tense Mets-Reds game. The trouble started when Noah Syndergaard threw a borderline pitch that was called a strike. Winker didn’t say much, just muttered “oh my god” and looked at the umpire. That was enough. Umpire Marty Foster escalated things quickly, asking what he said and telling him to shut up and get in the box. Winker denied talking back. Still, someone in the background yelled “throw him out,” and Foster did just that. Winker lost it, saying he didn’t say anything, and the Reds bench coach came flying in to keep things from getting worse.

Crew chief Ron Kulpa stepped in to calm Winker down. Even Yasiel Puig, not known for staying quiet, told him to relax. That seemed to do the trick. As Winker walked off, Mets fans waved goodbye, mocking the same gesture he gave them the night before after making a game-saving catch. Frustrated, Winker flipped his helmet, which hit his pitcher in the head by accident. He had to come back and apologize, and the pitcher didn’t take it too personally, brushing it off with a sarcastic “yeah cool.”

It was a short but wild ejection. Winker barely said a word before getting run. The fans had their revenge moment, and the Reds lost one of their better bats in the final inning. The whole thing showed how quickly a quiet moment can spin out once tension flares between players and umpires.
