Wellington Castillo gets ejected and has a tough weekend, a breakdown

Welington Castillo had a rough stretch against the Yankees. He got ejected after arguing balls and strikes with umpire Phil Cuzzi. After getting rung up on a borderline pitch, Castillo wasn’t happy when a similar pitch was called a ball later. He made his frustration known, and the ump warned him to drop it. When Castillo kept going, Cuzzi tossed him. Manager Rick Renteria came out to defend his catcher and ended up getting ejected too for continuing to argue about pitch calls.

The next game didn’t go much better. Castillo hit what he thought was a home run but didn’t run hard out of the box. The ball stayed in the park and he ended up with only a single. That one play mattered, as the next batter grounded into a double play, killing the inning. Yonder Alonso had words with Castillo in the dugout about not hustling. Soon after, Castillo was pulled from the game and landed on the 10-day injured list with an undisclosed issue. Not a great weekend for the White Sox catcher.
