Trea Turner and Dave Martinez get ejected, a breakdown

Trea Turner got tossed early in the Nationals-Braves game after a pair of questionable strike calls from umpire Mike Estabrook. In the top of the second, Turner got rung up on a pitch outside the zone and clearly wasn’t happy. Next at-bat, he fouled off a couple, then took another borderline pitch on a full count. Estabrook called it strike three again. Turner didn’t just walk away—he came back to argue and got ejected. Nationals manager Dave Martinez followed, furious.

Estabrook is known for his small strike zone and quick-trigger ejections, and he lived up to both here. Martinez shouted that the pitch was the same as the last one and got no leash at all. The crew mic picked up plenty of frustration from the dugout about inconsistency and lack of explanation. The ejections didn’t affect the Nationals’ playoff position, but the team let the umpire hear about it.
