Tigers Pitcher throws up on the mound, a breakdown

Bo Burrows had a rough outing in his first major league appearance with fans in the stands. The Tigers were already down big to the White Sox when Burrows came in. He opened the second inning with a walk and started showing signs of discomfort right away. His breathing got heavier, he was coughing between pitches, and he looked overheated. Despite that, he battled through some tough at-bats. He got a couple of strikeouts, including a comeback from a 3-0 count against Yasmani Grandal. But the warning signs kept building.

After a long inning with scattered control and mounting pitch count, Burrows couldn’t hide it anymore. Cameras caught him visibly throwing up on the mound while trying to tough out another inning. The umpire, catcher, and manager A.J. Hinch all huddled on the mound before pulling him from the game. Hinch later said the team believed Burrows was sick. The day ended with the Tigers sending Burrows back to Triple-A. It was a tough moment for the young pitcher, whose effort clearly outpaced his body’s limits that day.
