The Orioles had a rough defensive sequence in the bottom of the third. Down two runs with two on and two outs, they had a chance to get out of trouble with a simple ground ball. But things fell apart quickly. The infielder bobbled the ball right off the bat, missing an easy play. A teammate scrambled to back him up, but he couldn’t make the throw cleanly either. A third player tried to salvage the situation with a toss to first, but that didn’t go as planned either. Instead of ending the inning, the Orioles extended it with a series of misplays that looked sloppy from every angle. Everyone on the field looked frustrated, and the fielders clearly knew they botched it. It was the kind of inning that gets replayed for all the wrong reasons.
