The Mets pulled off another wild comeback, this time storming back from three runs down in the bottom of the ninth to stun their opponent and extend their hot streak. Todd Frazier delivered the key blow with a monster home run to tie the game, sparking a rowdy scene as teammates and fans went nuts. Pete Alonso looked to the skies, jokingly asking Tim Tebow for help, and Frazier answered with a blast that he clearly knew was gone the moment he swung. The inning continued with some failed small ball attempts and a pop out from Panik, but the Mets managed to keep things moving long enough to give Michael Conforto a chance.
In extras, Conforto delivered with a go-ahead homer, and the dugout exploded again. Alonso sprinted out faster than anyone, beating the base runner to home plate to lead the celebration. Jerseys were ripped, Gatorade flew, and Jacob deGrom soaked himself more than anyone else in the mob. Dom Smith got taken out by someone on crutches during the chaos, and no one could figure out how he got so far out on the field. Robinson Cano stayed back, waiting for everyone to come to him, content to keep the party low-key. The Mets have now won seven straight and 13 of their last 14, riding a wave of confident energy and clutch hitting.
