The Mariners save their season in the 8th inning, a breakdown

The Mariners were down a run in the bottom of the eighth with their playoff hopes on the line. Rookie Jarred Kelenic got it started by taking a curveball off the knee to reach base. Bowers worked a walk, and Fraley laid down a good bunt to move both runners into scoring position. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Seattle’s chance to tie the game seemed within reach, but a chopper to third led to a force out at the plate and a deflating review that confirmed the call.

With two outs and the season slipping away, Mitch Haniger came up with a full count and delivered. A clutch single scored two runs, one of them being the intentionally walked Crawford. The crowd erupted, benches cleared to celebrate, and the Mariners had new life. Kyle Seager followed with an RBI single to pad the lead, and the dugout turned into a party. There was even a failed Gatorade shower attempt that turned into a messy hug. Seattle kept their season alive with the comeback and lived to fight another day.
