The Braves pulled off a wild comeback late in the game, scoring eight runs in the eighth inning to flip a 7-0 deficit into a lead. It started with Duggar on the mound dealing well until he suddenly lost control and started walking hitters. A couple of hits and wild pitches later, the wheels came off. Freeman knocked in a run, and the bullpen couldn’t stop the bleeding. Conley came in and immediately gave up more walks and wild pitches. After Cervelli called for fastballs only, Culberson crushed one to the wall to tie the game. The Braves then took the lead with another hit, scoring their eighth run of the inning.
Conley, clearly frustrated, slumped in the dugout while a teammate immediately responded by launching a massive homer into the Chop House. It was one of those rare “teeth-out” homers, the kind that makes the whole team forget about how rough the inning started. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Adams walked it off with a homer, setting off a strange but joyful celebration. Washington tried to trip him rounding third, jokingly, and the dugout erupted with masked coaches cheering. Shoemake tried to fit in like one of the core guys, but Dansby and Culberson weren’t buying it yet. It was a ridiculous, emotional, and chaotic win, and the Braves carried that high-energy underdog vibe all the way to the clubhouse, even if the only ones in the stadium to witness it were the players, coaches, and a confused mascot.
