The A’s walked off with a strange win over the White Sox thanks to a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth. With the game tied at two, Oakland’s Chad Pinder reached base. Then a routine ground ball to short turned into a mess. The throw skipped past first and rolled deep into Oakland’s vast foul territory. Pinder turned on the jets, adjusted mid-stride, and slid home to end it. The White Sox defense handed the A’s a win they didn’t expect.
Celebration was a bit of a mess too. Ramón Laureano tried to handle the Gatorade dump but missed the hero. Instead, it soaked Robbie Grossman, who had already been pinch-hit for by Pinder. Grossman stood there, annoyed and confused, still holding his sunglasses. Nobody seemed sure who the main guy was, which made the whole scene more awkward than epic. In the end, the A’s took the win and completed a sweep of the White Sox to kick off the second half of their season.
