Tennessee pulled off a wild comeback win over Georgia Tech to punch their ticket to the Super Regional. Down a run in the ninth, they got the tying runner on base with a pinch runner. A close play at second was initially called an out, but video review overturned it, triggering a shift in momentum. Jordan Beck lined a single to center, and the outfielder misplayed it, letting Tennessee tie the game and take the lead. Beck flashed a middle finger and amped up the crowd. Things got loud and rowdy fast.
Tennessee kept piling on. With the bases loaded, Trey Lipscomb got hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run. Then, two straight singles brought in three more runs, stretching the lead to 8-4. The fans went nuts. Even parents in the crowd were mimicking throwing motions and arguing over technique. Tennessee looked in full control with a five-run cushion heading into the bottom of the ninth.
But Georgia Tech didn’t go away quietly. A leadoff walk and a couple of hits loaded the bases. Tennessee botched a double play opportunity, and two more Georgia Tech runs scored. With the tying run at the plate, the tension shot back up. But Tennessee’s pitcher locked in, striking out the final batter on a high fastball. The batter thought it was too high, but the umpire rung him up. Tennessee celebrated on the field, dancing and high-fiving into the Super Regional.
