Abner Uribe took the mound for the Blue Wahoos in a Double-A game against the Shuckers shortly before being promoted to Triple-A. Early in the outing, he showed off sharp stuff, mixing a fastball with arm-side run and a late-breaking slider. He brushed a batter with a pitch but recovered by striking out the next one on a nasty slider. With a two-run lead and a runner on first, Uribe got a weak grounder but only managed a force at second. With two outs, he got ahead 0-2, but then forgot about the pitch clock. The ump hit him with a violation, moving the count to 1-2.
Things got messy from there. A passed ball and a fastball in the dirt allowed the runner to move from first to third. Then a wild pitch brought in a run, cutting the lead to one. Uribe was visibly frustrated, throwing a ball toward his catcher and ignoring the ump. He finally got the strikeout on a full-count fastball and ended the game, but not without some drama. Even after the win, he let the ump know how he felt and got tossed, despite the game being over. Emotions flared, but Uribe’s stuff was electric. That final pitch showed why Milwaukee moved him up to Triple-A.
