Padres Manager, Jayce Tingler gets ejected in the NLDS, a breakdown

Jace Tingler got tossed from Game 1 of the NLDS after a string of questionable calls had him fired up. It started in the third when Fernando Tatis Jr. worked a 3-1 count before getting rung up on a pitch well outside. Next pitch, Walker Buehler throws a heater down the middle, and Tatis strikes out instead of walking. Fast forward to the sixth. Mookie Betts is up, and Garrett Richards is pitching. A similarly outside pitch gets called a ball this time. Tingler sees the inconsistency and starts chirping from the dugout.

After Betts hits a double, tensions peak. Tingler heads to the mound to pull Richards, but he’s not done talking. Hot mics catch the back-and-forth with umpire Lance Barrett. He tells Tingler he’s been warned multiple times. Tingler doesn’t even realize he’s been ejected until another ump tells him. Then he fully leans into it, glaring, rubbing the ball, and making sure everyone knows he’s pissed about the calls. Once he finds out he’s out of the game, he makes sure to get his money’s worth on the way off the field. The whole thing boils down to a simple argument: two nearly identical pitches got two totally different calls, and Tingler wasn’t letting that slide.
