May 18th MLB (Day Games) Round Up

Blake Snell shut down the Yankees in the Bronx, striking out nine and allowing just one run, which came on a wild pitch. Despite some strange moments—like the Rays not challenging a pitch that hit G-Man Choi in the foot—Tampa Bay got the win in extras. Tommy Kahnle gave up a solo homer to Brandon Lowe in the seventh to tie it, and Austin Meadows launched the game-winner in the 11th. Gary Sanchez had a day to forget, striking out four times and grounding into a game-ending double play. Masahiro Tanaka left early after taking a comebacker off the leg, but X-rays were negative.

The Marlins won back-to-back games for just the third time this season, with John Berti hitting his first career homer and scoring twice in a win over the Mets. Pablo López pitched seven scoreless to carry Miami. The Mets are skidding and manager Mickey Callaway is feeling the heat. Cincinnati blanked the Dodgers 4-0 behind six shutout innings from Tyler Mahle. A couple defensive mistakes by L.A. gave the Reds key insurance runs, including a misplay in center by Alex Verdugo that let two unearned scores in.

Elsewhere, the A’s topped the Tigers 4-1 with homers from Nick Hundley and Chad Pinder, while the Tigers’ only run came on a wild pitch. In Cleveland, Jordan Luplow and Oscar Mercado powered the offense, and Adam Plutko delivered six innings of one-hit ball in his first start of 2019. Aaron Nola struck out 12 in a dominant win over Colorado, and Bryce Harper crushed a home run out of Citizens Bank Park. Finally, in a rain-soaked game in Toronto, Ryan Feierabend made his first MLB start since 2014, throwing a knuckleball but giving up four runs over four innings in a loss to the White Sox.
