Max Muncie came off the bench to pinch-hit in the top of the seventh in a tied game and immediately got into a bit of a zone battle with the umpire. The first borderline strike call didn’t sit well with him, but he stayed composed. He said he didn’t agree, but accepted he’d have to protect the plate. The pitcher and catcher picked up on that and went right back to a similar spot, a little lower this time. The umpire still gave the strike. Muncie wasn’t animated, just told the ump he felt the pitches were low. The ump didn’t want to hear it and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stepped in to make sure things didn’t escalate, telling the ump not to yell at his guy.
The whole exchange stayed calm. Muncie didn’t lose it, Roberts backed his player, and the situation didn’t blow up. Two innings later, Muncie got his revenge with a go-ahead RBI, helping his team take the lead. His teammate Alex in the dugout celebrated loud, and Muncie jokingly told him to calm down, claiming he was scaring everyone. It was a clean moment of disagreement, followed by a clutch hit and a little clubhouse humor.
