Max Muncy and Dave Roberts Both Get Ejected, a breakdown

The Dodgers were in Seattle, trailing the Mariners when Max Muncie stepped up to the plate. He had already homered earlier but struck out looking once too. After taking two balls to start the at-bat, Muncie let a fastball down the middle go by for strike one. Then came a borderline strike two that he clearly didn’t like. The pitch looked nearly identical to one from earlier in the game that was also called a strike. The ump was at least consistent, but Muncie wasn’t having it.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts came out to defend his guy. The conversation with the ump didn’t last long — quick ejection. Roberts let the ump hear it before walking off, only to turn around for a few more words and gestures. Meanwhile, Muncie stayed in to finish the at-bat, struck out, then muttered a couple of words under his breath as he walked away. That was enough for the ump to toss him too. No warning, just a quick trigger. Both Roberts and Muncie got ejected over what looked like a tight zone and a short fuse behind the plate.
